If asked what my favourite aspect of being an interior designer is , I would have to say THIS ! Being in the company of great creatives , traveling to inspirational places, and sharing experiences….over 🥂. Nothing beats validation by one’s peers when it comes to sustaining a creative, luxury service practice so many decades long 😘 I recharged my mojo with this fine group a few weeks ago in Palm Beach …. makes 2023 look rosy.

Some of my favorite forty- somethings surprised me with a BDG reunion last night .it was the BEST of times …. Reminiscing, talking shop, and hearing about the balancing acts they are all doing as professionals with family strings constantly pulling . The years have passed so quickly - and yet , we all picked up where we left off . So blessed they are a part of my life , my legacy, and my extended family . Just wish we could all work together in a big loft again ,but they could definitely be “ the boss “ 😍photo 2 ladies room shout out for decor photo 3 these two came to BDG in their early 20’s and were “ long haulers”

Is there ever enough time in our lives to volunteer? I’ve always wanted to do more than •write a check” …yearned to be involved , physically , not just emotionally from afar . I’ve been on and off boards throughout my professional life…. but Never enough hours in the day while building a practice. These years, I am trying to balance out my time and give more - starting with a mission near and dear to my heart , my vocation, and my professional life.
Yesterday , I got to witness the fruits of human efforts as we hosted the John Staub Awards 2022 . A small , but mighty talented team met over lunch or Zoom weekly for almost 8 months to pull off this 2 day Event which started Friday night - when our weather plummeted 40 degrees in a few hours .😬 A huge shout out to for the beautiful florals he definitely captured through our vision of emailed concept photos 😘🪴, to .material for the elegant awards each winner took home as a reminder of the significance of their contribution to our built environment.

Today steps into a brave new decade . With so many accomplishments too numerous to recant , let’s just say her father and I still pinch ourselves at the goodness and grace this tiny human brought into our lives from the moment she was born at the Hospital Aleman in Madrid, Spain 4 decades past. This dearness of spirt fills our everyday as we watch her grow as a wife, mother, artist , and human being . She’s not the best interior design client I have had ….. but , I have a plan …..Happy Birthday dearest Mia ! ❤️❤️❤️🎂🥂🌸

When a past client called that his mother had left him a “ nice wall hanging “ I obliged…it is an absolute treasure . She had it for decades in her West Texas home …. It now resides in the lovely dining room of a home we remodelled a few years ago …. Way before we knew about this artifact. Curious how the silken grass cloth wallcovering & the drapery were selected years before this piece arrived….. a case of interior designer visions?!

Can’t let this week get away without a huge shout out to one of the brightest spots at BDG …. For 18 consecutive years , Christie Taylor has been by our sides using her banker brain along with her literal physical strength to pull off all these amazing projects from start to finish. She has stood by my side through think & thin, given me hope when talented designers leave us , and made many a new bed for a big client reveal. Her heart is huge , her work ethic to inspiring, and her loyalty fierce. She loves a good story, summer travels to Maine, and lovely dinners. Her math skills and attention to detail keep many a designer on her toes over here 😘

Lifecycle….of a home…..it hit me Sunday as I met with legacy clients who became BFF through 20+ years of helping them build and furnish 2 magnificent homes . The primary one is now changing hands and generations as my clients downsize & use their vacation home more.
It struck me as I wandered through the partially packed up rooms , we may never do window coverings of this exquisite detail nor will we be able to find lighting fixtures of this quality and perfect finish. Times & tastes have changed …. But my observation is the skilled labor force , and especially craftsmanship is melting . The artisans of this interior are ageing out or already gone . It is heartbreaking. 💔
