There are two kinds of people-
those who make lists, and those who don’t.

This one goes out to my list people, or those who have always wanted to be. The rolling to-do list is about to change the game.

What is a rolling to-do list?
Simply put, a rolling to-do list is a to-do list with more flexibility, perspective, and time built in.

How does it work?
By breaking down large tasks into small action items and spreading those action items out appropriately over time. It’s a simple concept, but once implemented it can have radical implications.

How do I make a rolling to-do list?
1. Make a master list.

Begin by creating one master list of everything you would put on your to-do list. These are your “header” tasks. This can be as serious as a workflow document in a spreadsheet, or a sheet of printer paper taped up in a prominent place. Just plan to refer back to it often.

2. Break it down

Break down every header task involved into action items that are clear, small, and actionable. Lets call these "mini steps" and you can have a lot or just a little...

3. Don’t panic

Yes, this will be longer than your typical to-do list. But remember- all those “extra” steps were always there. They just weren’t being acknowledged. By being honest with how much effort, energy, and time tasks take you are setting yourself up for success.

Let’s Get Rolling—The Daily List
Next, assign the actionable steps of various tasks that you will tackle for the next day.

Whatever your preferences, just don’t designate tasks more than one or two days ahead. At the end of the day, refer to your master list and assign tasks to the next day.

Why this works
It leaves room for life. With a rolling to-do list, you refer to your master list and take it just one day at a time. If you don’t get to an item because other tasks took longer than you expected or something came up, it rolls onto the next day. If you worry you’ll get too slack or easy going- don’t. Because…

It teaches you to be okay with not controlling everything– and that’s a valuable lesson to all my list making souls. Life happens. Roll with it.

I love modern & contemporary interior design, but I infuse it, as well as my business and my life, with ancient philosophy of great wisdom that has come centuries before us.

Kai Zen is a Japanese phrase that literally means "Change for the better" and is a pivotal part of Japanese business philosophy about constant improvement.

Often it is used to share an idea about constant improvement in life:
home, work, social & personal...which I love.

With this in mind, I make sure that my team and I take part in industry training every single week.

We invite vendors, suppliers and artisans into the office to share their new products, to discuss their methodologies, and to enjoy a meal with or snack with us (because sharing food & drink is a wonderful bonding experience, and makes things a bit more personal).

I also travel to international destinations a few times a year to expand my mindset, perspective and vendor list!

We definitely focus on local manufacturers and suppliers, but I love to see how other spaces inspire and connect people too.

Student housing isn't as 'student-y' anymore!!

Our recent project just off campus at SDSU called "StateSide"
was 30,000 sq feet of boutique hotel vibes.

My company ( Southcoast Design Group) handled all of the design, furniture, and custom details.

The team knocked it out of the park working long days, late nights & weekends to meet a super tight deadline to ensure that the students moved in on time.

This was a monumental task because of all of the rain delays and permitting delays in San Diego, but we slid into home plate just in time for student move-in day on August 15th 2023.

Im especially proud as a former Aztec and San Diego Native to be adding awesome new living spaces to San Diego's Skyline!

My dream job is the one that I have with one exception...

Id love to figure out how to work from anywhere and be just as successful (or even more so!)

This work setup in the photo makes me want to rearrange my life in drastic ways so that I can accomplish this goal,
and still have clients, and a team, and a thriving business.

If you are living this dream already
Please share your secret to this success in the comments.
I think we'd all love a little bit of this inspiration in our lives!

Blurring the lines between home & hospitality
isn't necessarily new,
It's just more important now than ever.

Because lifestyle, workstyle, and social connection
can (and often are) all done in the same place.

We make those places stand out from the crowded market
by infusing them with the best of "resi-mercial" design.

Im a Zillow design snoop=
this is the winner for the unique home of the day!

The architecture is very modern, and minimalistic, bending hard towards commercial.
For a gal (like me) that loves commercial design, this would take a little 'softening' to make it feel like home
throw pillows, art, color...
but it's still pretty amazing!
