When you think about Maine, what comes to mind? Lobster, blueberries, L.L. Bean and Murder She Wrote. People often ask me for some of my favorite places in Mid-coast Maine, so I thought I would put together a guide to “My Maine” for your next trip. Some are under the radar; some are already well-known favorites. Let me know if you have any places not to be missed.

Blue Hill Wine Shop, Blue Hill

The name is deceiving because it’s so much more. Eclectic wines from all around the world, ask for their suggestions, and they won’t lead you astray. A paradise for wine, cheese, and other specialty foods. A must-visit.

People Places Things, Belfast

A few years ago, I had a cup of coffee with the owner Elizabeth when she shared her dream of opening a shop. She had an incredible vision. Her dream came true and has been an instant success— People Places Things features edited collections of modern vintage and contemporary furnishings representing small studios and manufacturers producing unique work.

Chase’s Daily, Belfast

Where would you want your last meal to be? Chase’s would be it for me. This spot, which I drive an hour each way to visit at least once a week, makes other farm-to-table concepts look like amateur hour. The Chase family grows its own produce for the restaurant - don’t miss the farmers market at the back of the restaurant with picture-perfect produce. Chase’s creates some of the best vegetarian food I have ever had.

Long Grain, Camden

Once you have had your fair share of Lobster Rolls, it is time to visit this James Beard award-winning pan-Asian gem in Maine. Amazing flavors and fresh ingredients make Long Grain one of my favorite restaurants in Maine. I always order twice as much food just so I’m assured enough for leftovers.

Tinder Hearth, Brooksville

Tinder Hearth has a cult following for its wood-fired pizza for a good reason. I almost selfishly didn't add this to the list as it's already impossible to book a table. If you can snag a summer reservation to enjoy pizza and salads on picnic tables in their garden, save me a seat. If you can’t get in, try ordering to go or grabbing a loaf of bread.

Another preview from our Los Angeles project. Would it be strange for me to volunteer to do the laundry so I can spend more time in this room?
