The Art of Living: Sunday Series – Texture Becomes Functional

I am always interested in materials that do more than one thing.

In this space of our@lower level gallery, the stacked wood brings warmth, rhythm, and texture to the architecture, but it is also functional. It is part of how the room works, not simply how it looks.

That balance between beauty and utility is something I think about constantly in restaurant design.

When I designed the now Three MICHELIN Star Restaurant Enclos Sonoma - I used the firewood as a design and functional element. Today, Executive Chef Brian Limoges uses the wood from the design in his everyday cooking at the restaurant.

Nagomi in Color - An immersive and intimate afternoon at Nagomi with Jiun Ho, Benjamin Moore and Bay Area Designers.

It was a rare look inside the way color lives across an entire property.

Hosted with Benjamin Moore, ASID CA Peninsula Chapter, and South Bay Paints, the event invited the Bay Area design community into Nagomi, Jiun’s home, guest houses, gardens, and creative world.

Painted in Benjamin Moore, the property became its own study in contrast and calm. Black Panther by Benjamin Moore grounded the architecture against the garden on the modern guest homes while Atrium White illustrated the traditional main house with a clean, timeless ease. Together, they showed how paint can shape not only a surface, but the feeling of arrival, movement, and memory.

Guests toured the property with Jiun, moved through the interiors and gardens, and gathered for a seasonal luncheon that brought the experience back to what Nagomi has always been about. Design as hospitality. Color as emotion. A home made to welcome people, indoors and out, through every season.

Nagomi Sundays – Harvest Complete

This weekend, we completed the harvest at Nagomi. The last of our Sonoma Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes came off the vines, closing one season and beginning another.

There is something deeply satisfying about harvest. Months of watching, waiting, tending, and tasting come down to knowing when the fruit is ready. Now the work moves from the vineyard to the cellar, where these grapes will begin their next transformation.

For me, this is one of the most rewarding rhythms of living at Nagomi. You learn to follow the land, respect its timing, and appreciate everything that happens before a bottle ever reaches the table.
