“I was on the ground in Grenada last Saturday (July 27th) and saw the devastation first-hand. It’s taken a few days to process everything. It makes the work we’re doing with even more pressing.” (MK)

Grenada's Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell hit on this point in a call for justice this week.

“We demand and deserve climate justice,” said Mitchell at a press conference on Tuesday. “We are no longer prepared to accept that it is ok for us to constantly suffer significant loss and damage arising from climatic events and be expected to borrow and rebuild year after year while the countries that are responsible for creating the situation sit idly by with platitudes and tokenism.”

“This hurricane has put the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique light years behind and they are expected to pull themselves up by the bootstrap on their own,” Mitchell added. “This is not right, not fair and not just.”

Using a trauma-informed approach,
will host pop-up camps for the children of Carriacou and Petite Martinique to mitigate the mental health effects of Hurricane Beryl.

BIG NEWS FOR US SAN FRANCISCANS—looking to give our homes a bit of TLC.

Remember the old days of jumping through hoops with the 311 notification process for home improvements? Yeah, those days are over. 2024's bringing us the Constraints Reduction Act, and it's a game-changer.

Whether you're thinking about an extra room, converting your garage, or even building something brand new, the new rules are here to make it all a breeze. We've broken it down so it's easy for everyone to get on board with these changes.

To make all of these new changes easier to understand, we've put together an eBook that lays it all out into a downloadable eBook PDF.

You can also schedule a free consultation or send me an email directly at [email protected].

“I recently named one of our projects after the song ‘Trapeze Sw***er,’ originally recorded by . This song's haunting melody and poetic lyrics perfectly captured the essence of the building’s design.” (MK)

Trapeze Sw***er is a soulful and reflective track that resonates deeply, much like the architecture it inspired. Gregory Alan Isakov's rendition brings a unique emotional depth, making it a fitting namesake for a project that aims to blend beauty and introspection.

ReachWithin Grenada Critical Update.

As a board member, I want to share with you an urgent message from Karen Lawson about Hurricane Beryl on Grenada:

As many of you know, Hurricane Beryl - a category 4 hurricane - made landfall in Grenada, Carriacou, and Petit Martinique yesterday July 1, 2024. Today, the Reach Within team is checking on the well-being of children and youth living in the five residential care homes (orphanages) across the island and mobilizing food and clothing donations for communities that are most impacted. We will also be leading a team of trauma specialists to provide psychological first aid and support to children in emergency shelters in Carriacou and Petit Martinique - areas that were quickly decimated in Hurricane Beryl’s path. We thank everyone for their prayers, and we will continue to pray for other countries that may be impacted in the coming days. We are grateful for any support you can offer our recovery and resiliency efforts at this time.

Message me directly if you have capacity to assist.

We're kicking off a little series about going electric. We’ll tackle worries you might have and make the path forward clear.

Today, let’s talk induction cooking.

Short Version: Induction cooking is:
— Convenient: Fast, precise heating.
— Clean: Easy to wipe down, no burnt crap.
— Healthy: No harmful emissions like benzene or NO2.

----

Long Version: Switching to an induction stove isn’t just about fancy tech; it’s about totally transforming your kitchen game and boosting your health.

Convenient Cooking: Induction stoves heat your pots and pans directly, making cooking faster and more efficient. Think about boiling water in almost half the time it takes on a gas stove.

Precision Control: With induction, you get spot-on temperature control. Whether you’re simmering a delicate sauce or searing a steak, you’ll nail it every time. No more guessing or burning your food—just perfect results.

Enhanced Safety: The cooktop stays cool to the touch, so you’re less likely to burn yourself. Plus, induction stoves shut off automatically when you remove the pot, adding an extra safety net.

Easy Cleaning: Cleaning an induction cooktop is a breeze. Since the surface stays relatively cool, spills don’t burn onto it. A quick wipe, and you’re done.

Health Benefits: Induction stoves don’t pump out the harmful emissions you get from gas stoves, like benzene and NO2. Vox and NPR have flagged these risks—they can mess with your respiratory health and more. The American Gas Association tries to downplay it, but the evidence says otherwise.

Cooking Limitations: Okay, so induction might not be perfect for everything. High-heat wok cooking, for instance, can suck. But you can get a specialist induction wok hob that heats from all sides if you’re into that.

Try Before You Buy: Want to test drive an induction stove? We’ve got a portable electric stove you can borrow. Check out how fast it heats, how precisely you can control the temperature, and how much easier cooking gets.

Getting Started: Not sure if your electrical setup can handle an induction stove? In SF, older homes might need some upgrades for high-powered appliances. We can help you figure out if your setup’s good to go.

Let’s talk about the architectural marvel that is Frank Lloyd Wright’s [] Marin County Civic Center .

This iconic building, with its striking blue roof and graceful arches, seamlessly blends into the rolling hills of Marin, embodying Wright’s philosophy of organic architecture.

Our project, Funky Drummer, takes a page from Wright’s book—not in appearance, but in approach. Nestled into the San Rafael hillside, Funky Drummer offers stunning views back toward Mt. Tam and the Marin County Civic Center. Wright’s principle of integrating buildings with their natural surroundings deeply influenced our design philosophy.

The Civic Center’s innovative use of natural light and shading inspired our implementation of light monitors and heavy overhangs, ensuring every room in Funky Drummer is bathed in natural light, creating a harmonious connection with the environment.

This project is about more than just a home; it’s about creating a sanctuary that resonates with the rhythms of nature, much like Wright’s masterpiece across the valley. Stay tuned for more insights into our design process and the magic behind Funky Drummer.

In the hills of San Rafael, stands the Funky Drummer,
A house with rhythm, a beat like no other.
With bold designs, it embraces the earth,
Where light dances freely, giving dreams birth.

Inspired by Wright, it bridges the land,
Creating harmony with a builder’s hand.
Daylight streams through, in perfect array,
Transforming spaces, in a melodic display.

Echoes of nature in every room,
Crafted for life, where creativity blooms.
The Funky Drummer, a true architectural song,
Where modern living and nature belong.

Bu****it.

The recent interview with California Forever about their proposed new city in Solano County has stirred quite a bit of controversy. It's frustrating to see such vast resources funneled into building an entirely new city when San Francisco itself is crying out for investment.

Our city desperately needs these funds to address its pressing social and infrastructure challenges, not to construct some glossy, high-density enclave backed by Silicon Valley's elite. This project feels like a diversion from the real issues that need urgent attention right here in our existing neighborhoods. We ought to focus on improving what we already have rather than starting from scratch elsewhere.
