A rare 18th-century Bermudian British Colonial cedar chest of drawers, made in the manner of English Jacobean furniture.

The chest is arranged with five long drawers with raised geometric paneled fronts, later antique brass teardrop pulls, and brass escutcheons, beneath a projecting rectangular top and carved geometric frieze. The case is raised on square block feet.

Bermudian cabinetmakers produced furniture in imported mahogany and native Bermuda cedar, also known as Bermuda juniper. The indigenous wood was particularly suited to the island climate, resisting humidity, salt air, mildew, and insects, and developing a warm red-brown surface with age.

Professionally refinished, with filled areas to the top, some replaced elements, and later antique hardware.

Height: 43.5 in. (110 cm.)
Width: 46 in. (117 cm.)
Depth: 23.5 in. (60 cm.)
