Sala Season is here!

I'll be honest — Thanksgiving is a holiday I've wrestled with as an adult. Knowing its history makes it complicated. But somewhere along the way I realized something:

For immigrant families like mine, Thanksgiving isn't about the history. It's about the right of passage. It's about my grandparents and parents arriving in this country and claiming a holiday as their own. Sitting around a table. Feeling American. Feeling like they belonged.

And for me? Thanksgiving has always meant one thing:

Grandma's house in Highway City. 50 people crammed into a tiny living room. Plants everywhere. The smell of a pot of beans and home made tortillas. Getting fully glammed up in your Sunday's best and your least comfortable heels — knowing the only walking you'll do all day is from the couch to the kitchen table and back.
