A WARRIOR AND A FOREST HUNTER.
Two faces of The Legendary Court.

The Jack of Clubs holds his sword in quiet resolve. The Jack of Hearts carries a falcon and a grass snake — companions from the world of the sacred grove.

Distinct characters, brought together through a shared visual language: expressive woodcut illustration and a new geometric background pattern that connects the cards with the deck’s packaging.

These two Jacks offer a first look at the refinements taking shape across The Monarchs of Lithuania: The Legendary Court.

Four Lithuanian legends, woven into one artwork.

Palemonas, Šventaragis, Ringaudas and Margiris — stories of distant origins, sacred fire, courage and defiance come together in my “Four Legends” T-shirt designs.

Part of The Monarchs of Lithuania project, the artwork carries Lithuania’s legendary past into everyday life.

FROM EMBLEM TO ENAMEL

Yesterday I showed you the finished pin. Today, a little of what happens before a graphic design becomes a physical object.

Designing an enamel pin is not simply a matter of making an emblem smaller. Lines become metal partitions. Colors become enamel. The silhouette, thickness, open spaces, polished surfaces, and even the reverse side all become part of the design.

For the XVII North American Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival pin, I wanted to preserve the character of the original ornament while giving it another life as a small, wearable object. The result is a 34 × 40 mm hard-enamel pin in deep green, soft mint and white, framed in polished gold-tone metal. Two open spaces separate the lower element from the circular medallion, while the reverse carries the Festival identification and Chicago 2026.

And because Festival memories are often shared, I’ve added discounted sets to the Etsy shop:

The XVII North American Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival may be over, but some memories deserve a more tangible form.

I translated the Festival emblem into a hard-enamel pin — a small wearable keepsake — a piece of Lithuanian ornament, color, and the extraordinary atmosphere we shared in Chicago.

Made in polished gold-tone metal with deep green, soft mint, and white enamel, the pin measures approximately 34 × 40 mm. Its openwork construction gives it the character of a small brooch rather than an ordinary souvenir badge.

For dancers, families, friends, and everyone who wants to keep a little piece of Chicago 2026 close.

I have wanted to return to enamel pins for a very long time.

There is a personal reason for that. I grew up around them. My mother spent virtually her entire working life making traditional enamel pins — first in Klaipėda, where I was born, and later in Vilnius. As a child, I often went with her to the workshop, so metal, enamel and these small graphic objects have been familiar to me for as long as I can remember.

Decades later, I am returning to them from the other side of the process — as a designer.

This is one of my first completed custom pin projects: a hard enamel pin created for the Lithuanian School Genys in the San Francisco Bay Area, based on the school's original emblem designed by Inga Talmantienė.

My task was to translate the graphic emblem into a small physical object — preserving its character while adapting the shapes, metal outlines, enamel fields, proportions and construction for production.

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of bringing the finished pins to Genys for the opening of the new school year. Seeing them immediately pinned to jackets and shirts was the best possible conclusion to the project.

And also a beginning.

Custom pin design and production is becoming a new direction in my design work—from concept and artwork to a finished edition. If you have an idea for a custom pin, feel free to reach out.

Today, the Lithuanian School Genys in the San Francisco Bay Area opened a new school year. We gathered, sang the Lithuanian national anthem, and watched the children head off to their classrooms.

Today was also the first day for a little Genys of my own—a new enamel pin I designed for the school, based on the original Genys emblem created by Inga Talmantienė, now finally where it belongs: worn by the Genys community.

A new school year begins. And a little Genys begins its journey too.
