This project transforms a 1924 Tudor Revival
residence—designated historic—into a dynamic family home that unites preservation with bold contemporary design. Originally centered on its half-acre lot, the 3,200-square-foot structure was carefully relocated to the
southeast corner to allow space for a 4,800-square-foot modern wing. The resulting L-shaped composition embraces southern light and is defined by a transparent glass entry and bridge that delicately links old and new.
The historic Tudor exterior was meticulously restored,
including hand-blown leaded glass windows, half-timbering, and the original arched solid-wood door. Inside, the home was fully reimagined for a young family of five. The new wing introduces a modern program—primary suite above an
open kitchen, dining, and family room, with theater, game room, and gym below—anchored by a corten-steel-clad spine housing a three-story stair and elevator.
Sustainability and craft shape the material palette:
dark-stained Accoya siding, reflecting pools, a green roof over the family room, and an exterior motorized louver system that provides efficient solar control. Together, the restored Tudor and contemporary addition create a cohesive, forward-looking residence that honors history while embracing modern family life.
