The tortoise habitat now has its stand.

Six full-height posts carry the whole thing. The rails sit inside the posts so the walls stay flush and there's nothing sharp on the outside. Redwood pickets on the walls, plywood floor with a shelf underneath.

I set the height so the owner can reach in without bending over. That one measurement decided the rest of the build.

Finishing up the tortoise habitat this week.

The walls are redwood pickets. I cut each one to the same height, then sanded the tops so nothing catches a hand or a shell. It's 6 feet long, and the stand puts the rim at a height the owner can reach without bending.

Sanding takes longer than the cutting. It's the part nobody sees, and the part you'd notice if I skipped it.

8ft cedar raised garden bed. $199.

It's 8 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 28 inches tall, with 15 inches of planting depth. Real cedar, so it holds up to Arizona sun and wet soil without rotting out in a season. Tall enough that you aren't bending to the ground to w**d.

I built this one here in the shop. Liner is +$45 and delivery is +$45 if you want them.

Custom redwood tortoise habitat on a stand 🐢
6 ft × 2 ft enclosure with redwood walls and a plywood floor. It's 16½" deep inside, on a built-in stand with the top edge at 37". Underneath there's a full-length storage shelf with about 11½" of clearance, room for substrate bins, food and supplies.

A tortoise habitat I'm working on this week.

The customer is 85 and doesn't want to bend over to reach in. So the floor sits 19 and a half inches off the ground and the rim is 37 inches. Redwood picket walls, plywood floor, 6 foot long.

Most builds start with the wood. This one started with the person who has to reach into it.
