Mori K. Photography

Mori K. Photography Photographer, geographer, and educator. Sharing my passion for our natural world through nature photography, one shoot at a time.

I’m a Colorado-based photographer offering photos and fine-art prints of landscapes, nature, and wildlife. All photos are captured and minimally edited by me to remain true to the scene, featuring places from Colorado and my travels. I believe a photograph is not complete until it is printed. While this page shares what I saw through the lens with you, I have also started a store to turn

real moments lived in the natural world into tangible, lasting fine art prints. Each photograph in the shop is captured in-camera and edited by me specifically for print, with care for detail, color fidelity, and longevity. I use a natural approach to editing, preserving the authenticity of the scene as it was experienced. Through my work, I hope to share the beauty and thrill of the natural world and bring a piece of it into your space.

Winter sunrise over the folded limestone and mudstone formations of the Kaikōura Peninsula.
These jagged layers were lifted from the seafloor by tectonic forces along the boundary of the Pacific and Australian plates, then carved by relentless Southern Ocean waves into these dramatic textures.
When there is texture, black and white looks good!

The Flatirons by Boulder, Colorado, saw a once-in-a-lifetime showing of aurora borealis on November 11, 2025, with the northern lights stretching and dancing green curtains in a red sky, aligning perfectly over the Green Mountain. I was lucky enough to make it to this location just south of Boulder and captured this photograph with a 24mm F1.8 lens, with a 10 second exposure. The green spikes were perfectly visible with naked eye over the red sky, overpowering city lights just to the right of this frame.

Classic wing-drying pose of a Pied S**g at low tide near Kaikōura.
I always wondered why their feathers aren’t as waterproof as ducks, especially since cormorants are such strong divers. It turns out that slightly permeable feathers reduce buoyancy, helping them dive more efficiently, but at the cost of having to pause and dry out afterward, giving us mortals a perfect photo opportunity!

These rocks on Kaikoura Beach in New Zealand are mainly greywacke and mudstone, deposited in deep sea and later uplifted along the plate boundary associated with the Alpine Fault. Waves have since carved them into a smooth, undulating wavy shape. Erosion really make for some beautiful shapes.

Hello stranger!
This little guy is a 'variable oystercatcher'. He was quite busy at sunrise wading the shores of Kaikoura for breakfast, but we had a 'hello' moment caught on camera. Happy Earth Day!

Another one from home, juxtaposing the 14k ft Longs Peak in the background against the Flatirons in the foreground. This is a very unique angle that I love going back to, seeing two icons in one frame.

Black-necked stilt has one of the longest leg-to-body ratios of any bird. Those long pink legs are all muddy from wading in deep mud!
After trying and failing many times to capture them in flight, I love how this one came out!
