Afternoon Getaway is a work by contemporary Spanish artist Fernando Aracil.

Medium: Mixed Media on Canvas

Dimensions: 31 × 31 inches

Artistic Style: Aracil's work sits at the intersection of expressive, large-scale abstract compositions and subtle landscape forms.

Visual Elements: The piece features a rhythmic composition of bold, vertical stripes or linear elements rendered in a rich, varied color palette. These vibrant vertical accents rest above dynamic, gestural brushstrokes and rich textures.

Themes & Inspiration: Like much of Aracil's portfolio—which frequently references sunlit walls, coastal serenity, and Mediterranean light—Afternoon Getaway translates the feel, brightness, and warmth of a midday escape into abstract forms and rhythmic color.

Frane Mlinar worked as a graphic designer in the 80s (commercial art, technical illustration) before joining the Croatian hyper-realism movement in 1988.

Mlinar states that one of his artistic goals is to connect viewers with the traditions of ancient fishing villages along the Adriatic Sea, where daily life has remained uniquely unchanged.

Mlinar paints boats resting on still water, centering reflections with the same focus and detail as the boats themselves. Looking at his work, the viewer is impressed by both the realistic depiction of the scene and the perspective created by shadows and reflected images.

The underside of a boat becomes a reminder of nature’s complexity….

Two paintings by Mlinar are available for sale at Thornwood Gallery - Santa Fe (555 Canyon Road):

This trio by Maxine Price brings together the rich luminosity of oil with the soft, organic texture of cold wax, allowing the her to build, scratch, and reveal hidden layers beneath the surface. Each piece feels like an ancient portal—blending soothing turquoise, deep emerald, and warm ochre with intricate carved motifs.

Photos capture the composition, but stepping up close lets you trace every carved line. Come wander through our San Antonio gallery this week @ 10 Dominion Drive, Building 1, Suite 101

Capturing the radiant warmth of the American Southwest, Chamisa and Asters by Roger Williams is a stunning celebration of regional flora and traditional architecture. Painted in rich oil on linen, the artwork showcases a sun-drenched adobe home nestled behind a vibrant expanse of golden chamisa and delicate wild asters. Williams’ masterful handling of dappled light and soft, impressionistic brushstrokes perfectly evokes the peaceful, timeless spirit of New Mexico.

Painted with oil on linen, this work captures the traditional beauty of New Mexico’s landscape and traditional architecture. While Roger Williams captures many timeless elements of the physical world with his brushstrokes, he also captures the light of the Southwestern sky in a way that begs another look and can’t truly be explained. Come take a look for yourself at 555 Canyon Road.

Ovation by photographer Max Underwood is a vibrant homage to Fall in the mountains, when the tree's leaves transform into brilliant golden hues.
This composition depicts the aspens of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains reaching toward the sky, as the clouds are gently pushed along by the cool winds of Autumn.
