Would you believe me if I told you I don’t have a design style?!

We all know that as people we have different preferences and likes, and rightfully so! Our clients’ homes are a reflection of theirs’, not mine. We truly mean it when we say we design for our clients style, vision, and the way they live.

The beautiful thing about *NOT* having a design style, is that I love all the different design styles, which makes my job 10X more fun. I get to change it up for each client and I enjoy exercising my creativity in that way.

This week we had a big meeting for a Seaside beach house remodel, where the client is wanting a color-punched Old Florida feel.

Our male tile sales rep saw everything laid out and said “Wow, I would never be able to envision all this together. This feels like Old Florida,” … he didn’t know that was our concept 😉 so I’d say we hit the nail on the head.

Our client left the 2-hour meeting saying, “That was so fun! You guys made it so easy for me and I love where we landed with everything. I’m so excited.”

And THAT is what it’s all about. We use our creativity to bring their vision to life in ways they wouldn’t have been able to do on their own. While she loves it, I have several clients who would not like this style at all haha. And that’s the whole point, er’body gets their own design style!

Eight months. Several walls moved. A lottt of new drywall. Hundreds of decisions.

Remodels are the most rewarding. When all the hard work and design layers start coming together.. every day is revealing the installation of something new!

Our clients are so excited we’re in the home stretch and the install is just weeks away. It’s basically the same thing as Christmas Eve. And don’t tell us it’s not 😉

The “design plan” becomes the reality, and the house they get to call home. Designed with them in mind. How they entertain, the grandkids, the dogs, the wine friends- all of it matters.

After 15+ remodels, seeing them come together never gets old. This one is going to be good 🙌

Today was special, and I wouldn’t have even known it had .photographer not told me. We were talking this morning on the way to our photoshoot in Alys, discussing logistics and times. She says “you know what memory popped up today?!” I didn’t. She said “5 years ago today, we were shooting another house in Alys together.” 5 years ago, I took a blind leap of faith and decided to start my own business. May 1st will always be “BWI’s official birthday”, but last week should always be an important one ❤️ and Brittany brought me the sweetest card and one of her handmade bud vases- which made my sentimental heart gush! I am so thankful for the people I get to do business with 👯‍♀️

As we stood in the living room talking through the shot list and describing why I wanted to get some “odd” photos, I was telling her how important it has been to me lately- to get back to the heart of why I do what I do. That why I love design goes back to my childhood, the memories at my grandparents beach house in Mexico Beach, the annual pictures on their sofa and their back steps in Georgia. In my moments, I remember the spaces I was in, what they smelt like, and felt like. Space has always been important to me. And that is why I do what I do. To create homes that memories are made in. It’s not all about pretty furniture, it’s the feeling of the space that gets to hold those future memories. Her eyes welled up. I had a lump in my throat just talking through it.

I am at the beach today because of a college internship. I chose the beach because I knew I could be happy there by myself. I’m not sure I would have chosen the beach had I not had those memories growing up at my grandparents’ beach house.

Not that my passion was ever lost, but maybe my purpose felt a little dusty, covered up with the to-do’s that come with running a business. If you made it this far, thanks for reading 🥰 I’m excited to be reconnecting to my heart and being able to verbally express my passion. And I’m really glad you’re along for the ride- because that’s what life’s about- the memories, the moments, the people, and the spaces that hold them ✨

What is our “special sauce?” Every design business is different, yet we provide similar services. I’ve spent a lot of time this year, trying to pin point what makes us different.

The client experience is SO important to me! Over the last two years we’ve been investing in new team members, implementing new processes and systems in our back end, to ensure we continue to deliver an exceptional experience.

Over the last month, we’ve had 4 past clients reach out about new projects. Earlier this year, we worked with 4 additional past clients on new homes and/or new projects, for their beach houses and their full time residences. In previous years, we’ve worked with additional repeat clients 2-3 times as they change from one home to another, or decide to update another part of their home. And the deeper I thought, there were more in the years before. This isn’t about the numbers, yet the numbers did reveal something to me that I hadn’t truly processed.. That they keep coming back ❤️

As I talked to two past clients this week about their new projects, we were also catching up on life- new business ventures they’ve taken as a family, their children getting married, and other special life occasions… it’s not just about the project, we do life with our clients.

In all my reflection, I’ve realized that maybe part of our secret sauce is how we make our clients FEEL- they’re seen, taken care of, informed, and know that we have their best interest. People will ALWAYS remember how you make them feel. I believe that applies to how they feel in their home just as much as it does to how you treat them as a person. We don’t treat our clients like a business transaction or a project, because they’re more than that. Their homes require us to know and understand them and how they live, to deliver a design that is FOR them. And that’s what it’s all about- THEM✨

Fireworks fade. But the memories? Those stay. Before the fireworks start—pause.

Today is about freedom, gratitude, and the kind of moments that become family traditions. What are the moments from today your kids will remember years from now?

Here we grow again 🥰 We are beyond thrilled for Carlen and her family! Sweet baby Mila Jane joined the world May 30th, 5 lb 14 oz of pure sweetness.

Carlen, big brother Beck, and the family are doing so well and adjusting to their new family of 4. Mila is a great baby and Carlen is enjoying all the baby snuggles. We miss our procurement manager something fierce (DUH haha) but we are happy she’s able to be home with her babies for this season!

At BWI, it’s about more than just design. We bond with our clients, we all do life together, we care deeply, and our team is no different. Our team is another family and we are so excited for Carlen ❤️
