Well… today had other plans for me.

The day started with a shelving unit falling over in the garage. To my surprise, my turkey, my swan, and several of my favorite pieces somehow managed to get wedged in just the right place and didn’t smash! A small miracle, really. 🤍
Then I went to the pharmacy to get medicine for my daughter… and my car broke down. It was a hot mess..and I mean hot..outside while we waited for my husband to come and rescue my daughter, two dogs and me.
So naturally, we took ourselves into Walgreens and wandered around where it was nice and cool. 😂

And then later this evening, my daughter ended up back in the hospital with bronchitis and terrible asthma. I’m praying with all my heart that it isn’t pneumonia.

So, my friends, this is all I could muster up today. A little cozy cottage corner and a tiny bit of beauty after a day that felt like it had gone completely off the rails.

For anyone who still believes old things have secret stories to tell… welcome to my autumn cottage. 🍂

I do love a bit of vintage, especially when autumn comes around.

There are old baskets and blooms spilling across the mantel, vintage treasures tucked here and there, and my old porch dressed for autumn.

I’ve added a few more things to my gallery wall, filled the corners with things I’ve collected over the years, and even given an old free sofa a little home.

Nothing matches terribly well, and not everything is perfect or new …but I think that’s rather the point.

It’s the old things, the collected things, the things with a little history, that make a house feel like home.

And when autumn arrives, I simply can’t help adding a few pumpkins, flowers and bits of foliage to every corner.

September is not about having it all done… it’s about gathering your autumn.

There is no need to have every pumpkin placed or every wreath hanging on the door just yet.

September is the month to start thinking ahead… to wander through the thrift shops and gather a few little treasures.

Perhaps you find a wreath at the shop that you like, but don’t quite love. That’s alright. Take it home, give it a little spray paint, tuck in a few things you do love, and make it your own.

Find some old books you no longer care for and paint them in lovely autumn colors to blend into your home.

Gather a few pumpkins and paint those too.

Pick up some apples or pears from the thrift shop and give them a little makeover.

Sometimes I simply add a little baking soda to my paint to give them that wonderfully clumpy, old-fashioned texture.

Gather some hydrangeas and turn them into a garland for your mantel.

Add a little splash of autumn to your bedroom.

Look outside and see what nature is offering you. A little foliage can become something quite lovely.

And don’t forget those forgotten corners… even the bathroom can feel cosy with a little fall foliage or a pumpkin or two.

You never quite know what you’re going to find when you walk into my whimsical ween little cottage … 🎃🖤

Every nook and cranny is filled with curiosities, oddities, heirlooms, and little treasures collected along the way.

And of course, there’s always a little something being created around here too… today, it’s me giving this trio of pumpkins a little touch of paint of their own.

There’s always something old, something whimsical, and perhaps a little unexpected hiding around the next corner.

Because when your little home and fill it with all the things you love, why not have a little fun and let Halloween creep into some corners?

So come and have a little peek around my house of curiosities… you never know what you might discover next.

Everything is going so fast… I mean, who gave September permission to arrive already? 😂🍂

Perhaps that’s why I keep filling my home with things that make me want to slow down.

This little 1976 home may be in Florida, but in my mind, she’s a cosy cottage somewhere far more suited to misty mornings, woolly jumpers and a proper cup of tea.

She’s filled with hand-painted floors, thrifted chandeliers, fall foliage, flowers, pumpkins, books and blooms… and, quite honestly, whatever else I happen to fancy bringing home. 😂

Because life already moves quickly enough, doesn’t it?

Sometimes we need a little more time to sit down, put the kettle on and simply enjoy the homes we’ve created.

So dress your home however you like. Hang the most bizarre things on your gallery wall. Hang your baskets. Fill your bowls with apples. Stack your books. Buy the pumpkin. Add the flowers.

And if my video goes by a little too quickly, well… apparently August did too. 😂

But perhaps that’s all the more reason to slow down once the camera stops rolling.

Autumn, in my home, is simply a collection of all the things I love… gathered together and enjoyed slowly. 🍂🤎

September is here… and I finally have an excuse to turn my 1976 home into a cozy autumn cottage.

My home may not have been built as an English cottage, but that has never stopped me from dreaming. And autumn is when I have the most fun bringing that little dream to life.

The first thing you’ll see is my kitchen nook, where I’m adding a vase full of blooms to my vintage butcher block.

Just beyond that is my breakfast room and one of my favorite spots in the house …my gallery wall and cosy little sitting area.

I love sitting here each morning with a cup of tea, surrounded by all the collected bits and pieces that have found their way into my home.

And then you’ll see my old apothecary, where I once had a table. These days, it can become a coffee bar, a little display for seasonal treasures, or simply whatever I fancy at the time.

And yes, there I am carrying yet another bunch of hydrangeas. 😂 Because apparently one can never have too many blooms in an autumn cottage.

There are pumpkins tucked here and there, an old wreath from last year that I gave a new lease on life with lighter paint and strips of drop cloth torn into ribbons, my vintage-inspired bathroom, and an old urn overflowing with autumn blooms and pumpkins.

Most of my autumn colors stay soft and subtle, with little splashes of peach, gold and warm wood tones.

Let the bee months begin to unfold.🤗

This is how I like to bring a little autumn into my home.

Come have a little wander through my home with me.

I’ve added bits of autumn here and there, but I still wanted everything to feel like my home …collected over the years, a little quirky, a little old-fashioned, and filled with things I’ve found and fallen in love with.

There are the hand-painted Harlequin floors, an old peg rail with a trio of hats, bits of architectural salvage, vintage books, candles, my gallery wall and all sorts of little treasures tucked in amongst it all.

And then there’s the bedroom… with those soft pinks that somehow seem perfectly at home in autumn.
I’ve never been one to believe that everything has to change with the season.
Sometimes a few little touches are all you need.
A bit of autumn here, an old treasure there, a candle burning and a home that feels warm and lived in.
That’s my kind of decorating.

I don’t really decorate for Halloween… I simply let a little mischief creep in. 🕯️🎃

Give me stacked books, candles burning, a tray layered with blooms and a few collected curiosities, and I’m perfectly happy.

On the sideboard, there’s a plethora of books in whimsical colours, an old clock tucked into the middle, and just enough Halloween to make things interesting.

A broom here. A hat there. Perhaps a crow or two. And, of course, my favourite wonderfully drippy candles — the ones you’re always asking me about.

You don’t have to go all in.

Put a tiny pumpkin on a chair and call it decorating.

Or go full steam ahead with crows, chandeliers, candles and whatever else takes your fancy.

There really are no rules.

Just add a little bit of Halloween, a little bit of whimsy, and perhaps a touch of the unexpected.

After all, a home should have a personality… and mine occasionally gets up to mischief. 🖤

I found a $20 table… and apparently lost all dignity. 😂

Because when you find a solid wood table for $20, there’s only one sensible thing to do…
Spin on it, of course.

And while I may have looked slightly ridiculous doing it, I regret absolutely nothing. 😂

This little thrifted table is now sitting amongst a home built from bargain finds, hand-painted pieces and a collection of things that probably made other people wonder, “Why would anyone want that?”

The Harlequin pumpkin $7 My $20 duck (apparently everyone wants to buy him from me…. not for sale🤣) Thrifted and painted again because apparently I cannot leave well enough alone.

Many of the baskets? Thrift stores… and a few rescued from my lovely neighbor when she moved.

Then there are all the little bits and bobs collected along the way…the things that make a house feel less like a showroom and more like a slightly eccentric English cottage full of curiosities.

Woods, whites, a whisper of blue, thrifted treasures and absolutely no decorating rulebook in sight.
And yes… apparently, spinning on a $20 table is now part of my decorating process. 😂🤍
