A SARASOTA ORIGINAL. A NEW CHAPTER. AN HONOR TO BE PART OF IT.

Some projects carry a little more meaning when you know the story behind the name on the building.

Suncoast Window Films & Shades is proud to be tinting the new Caragiulos Italian American Restaurant at 1833 Ringling Boulevard—a new home for a family business woven into Sarasota’s history.

That story began long before the first plate of pasta was served on Palm Avenue. Tony Caragiulo, originally from Mola di Bari in southern Italy, spent decades in the baking business, including running his own bakery in Brooklyn. After retiring to Florida with his wife, Anna, he and his sons found an opportunity in downtown Sarasota.

In 1988, while searching Florida’s west coast for a restaurant location, Tony spotted a “for lease” sign on Palm Avenue. The family signed the lease the next day. In February 1989, Caragiulos opened its doors.

The beginning was a true family effort. The brothers searched for used kitchen equipment. Anna made the curtains. Tony handled the baking. Everyone had a hand in bringing the restaurant to life.

Over the decades, that family effort grew into a Sarasota favorite. Co-owner Paul Caragiulo and the family have helped carry forward a tradition of Italian-American food and hospitality, while the family’s restaurant ventures have also included local favorites Owen’s Fish Camp and Veronica Fish & Oyster.

Now, the move from Palm Avenue to Ringling Boulevard gives that story a new setting, right here in downtown Sarasota.

For our team at Suncoast, contributing to this space is something we take pride in. A restaurant’s atmosphere lives in the details—the light coming through the windows, the comfort of a table by the glass, and how the room feels when guests settle in. Our window film work is one part of the care going into this new home.

As a local business, we appreciate the years of work it takes to build a name people know and a place they return to. Being part of the next chapter for Caragiulos makes this project especially rewarding.

To the Caragiulo family and the entire restaurant team: congratulations on your beautiful new home. We’re proud to have a part in it.
