Telling the Bees 🐝🖤

These beautiful images, shared by Alma of Sarasota Honey Company, capture a deeply moving tradition as she tells her beloved bees that her husband, Glenn, has passed away.

For centuries, beekeepers in parts of Europe have honored the custom of telling the bees about important family milestones—especially the loss of a loved one. The hives were often draped in black as a sign of mourning, reflecting the belief that bees are not just producers of honey, but cherished members of the family.

Our hearts are with Alma as she honors Glenn’s memory. May his love, kindness, and legacy continue to live on in the bees he cared for and the sweetness they bring to the world. 💛🐝

It is with a heavy heart that I share that Alma’s beloved husband, Glenn Johnson, recently passed away due to complications following cancer surgery.
While many of you may not have known Glenn personally, he was a big part of Sarasota Honey Company behind the scenes and was Alma’s best friend, business partner, and the love of her life.
Before Glenn passed, he accepted the Lord, and he and Alma were blessed with precious weeks together filled with prayer, faith, love, and God’s grace. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing he is at peace and no longer suffering.

We will be holding a Celebration of Life in Glenn’s honor. If you would like to attend—whether because you knew Glenn or because you would like to support Alma during this difficult time—Please RSVP: [email protected]

Family and friends, I’m asking everyone to please keep Glenn lifted up in prayer today as he goes into surgery at 12:30. We are believing God for peace, strength, wisdom for every doctor, nurse, tech and a complete and full recovery. Your prayers, love, and support mean more than words can express during this time. 🙏❤️

“The Lord forgives all his iniquities, heals all his diseases, redeems his life from destruction, and crowns him with loving kindness and tender mercies. His mouth is satisfied with good things and his youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” — Psalm 103

“Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.” — Jeremiah 33:6

Today I declare that Glenn is covered by the Blood of Jesus. He is more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus and has overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of his testimony. I believe this surgery will be successful, healing will flow through his body, and there will be no remnant of this illness left behind in the mighty Name of Jesus.

And when this is all over, Glenn will have a testimony to tell. ❤️🙏

Today, I feel led to share something deeply personal. ❤️

My wonderful husband Glenn has been diagnosed with stage 4 urothelial cancer and he is presently fighting yet another infection. While this news has been incredibly difficult, there has also been so much beauty in the middle of the ashes. Through this journey, Glenn has fully given his heart to the Lord, and our marriage is stronger than it has ever been. We are leaning on God more deeply than ever before.

Through my cancer story, the Lord transformed my life in ways I never could have imagined. It led me to beekeeping, to this amazing community, and to so many loving people here in Sarasota. My prayer now is that Glenn’s story will also become a testimony of God’s goodness, healing, and grace.

To our incredible customers, friends, and community — you have always shown up for us, often before we even knew we needed it. You have truly made our lives sweeter than any honey we could ever produce.

Right now, we are simply asking for prayers. Please keep Glenn in your hearts and place him on your prayer lists. And if you feel led, please share this so we can cover him in as many prayers as possible
