Bare windows are out. Texture is in.

Does: cut the glare on the screen, keep the yard and the deck in view, block 94%+ of UV. Look at the photo: shade most of the way down, fence still right there.

Doesn't: give you privacy after dark. With the lights on, the effect flips and people outside can see in.

How to layer a window, in order. Swipe along.
1. The shade. It handles the light. Woven wood on slide one and three, pleated shades on the bay in slide two.
2. The drapery. White sheers, taupe pinch pleats, white panels. It handles the feeling.
3. The timing. Drapery is the investment layer, so it goes last and gets noticed first.

A: Look at what's in the room. White shiplap, stone, black fixtures. All cool tones. The window is the one place you can add a warm material without touching the walls. One bronze roman shade over the sink did it here.
Tracey said it in August with three words: "Beautiful roman shades."

"Room darkening" and "blackout" get used like they mean the same thing. They don't, and the difference shows up at 6am.
Swipe through three roller shades, three fabrics. Slide one: light filtering. Light comes through, the view doesn't. Slide two: a denser fabric on a patio door. The deck behind it is completely gone, and the room stays bright. Slide three: blackout fabric. Nothing comes through the cloth, and you can see it right above the bare glass.
The honest part: blackout describes the fabric. Light still sneaks around the edges of any shade, and slide three shows a sliver at the top.
