A mudroom, but make it a place you want to linger.

Just off the kitchen and breakfast nook at the Humbird-Jewett-Gaiser Mansion, this hardworking space became part landing zone, part study, and part everyday retreat.

Clear acrylic desks keep the room feeling light, while woven chairs, a built-in bench, patterned walls, layered pillows, books, a globe, and a few personal touches bring it to life. It is practical enough for backpacks, homework, and the daily shuffle—but considered enough to feel like a true part of the home.

Because the hardest-working rooms deserve just as much personality.

Some of the best design moments happen between the rooms.

Inside the historic Humbird-Jewett-Gaiser Mansion in Spokane, this foyer and stair hall became a layered destination of its own. Ornate white millwork and a sweeping black handrail establish the architecture, while upholstered chairs, patterned pillows, a hide rug, collected artwork and a distressed blue cabinet bring warmth and personality to the space.

Every detail adds to the story: sculptural lighting, framed photography, stacks of books, natural objects and pieces that feel gathered rather than placed. The result is a foyer that welcomes you into the home while offering a glimpse of everything still to come.

Because an entryway should do more than lead somewhere. It should set the tone.
