My crooked belt is a paid actor. Oops. Want to know why I chose each rating for these kitchen trends? Read on:
* Paneled refrigerator - can be annoying to guests who wonder where your darn fridge is, but it is nice to disappear a giant appliance.
* Mixing metal finishes - You don’t have to be all matchy matchy with everything. Your faucet finish can be different from your drawer pulls and from your sconces. Be considered, but be free!
* Layering lights - the right combination of sconces, lamps, pendants, recessed lighting can give you the perfect mix of cozy vibes and task illumination.
* Open shelving - if used for plants, cookbooks and everyday kitchenware, it’s always practical and never a mere dust trap. But know thyself.
* Wallpaper in a kitchen - perfect touch to add texture, color, pattern or a mix of all three for unique charm.
* Gas cooktop - pollutes your house whether on or off? Inconsistent heat? Challenging to clean? No thanks.
* Induction cooktop - amazingly efficient with immaculate levels of control. And no, unless your pans are copper or aluminum, you don’t need all new cookery.
* Matching countertop and backsplash - great if not done in a trendy way that will stamp your kitchen in 2026.
* Hanging art in a kitchen - why leave your boxy stovetop hood blank when you can hang art there? If you’re worried about grease just ensure it’s framed in glass. I’m all about art anywhere you can place it.
* Statement marble - so beautiful but not for folks afraid of maintenance, stains, or etching.
* All-white kitchen - mostly a yawn, and not really that timeless unless executed with the right combination of elements. The biggest mistake? Mixing warm and cool whites unintentionally. *shudder*
Thanks to .co for filming and to Seattle for letting me shoot in their beautiful showroom.
