Love this barrel stave pen. This particular pen is now with a customer who commissioned it in Australia. I was contacted via a user group on FB for a pen that used Frixion ink but that showcased his fondness of bourbon and whiskeys as well as met his functional needs in a pen.
Lathe: Jet 10-14 .woodworking
Bandsaw: Rikon 10-306
Pen kit: Gunmetal Junior Aaron
Finish: CA thin and medium

Buffing/Polish: Plastipolish
Turning tools: Round carbide cutter

- Once the customer picks out the blank to be used, then the process of measuring the brass tubes up against the blank begins.
- Used a pencil to mark the divisions before cutting on a bandsaw (use more of a “+” mark to keep the grain of the two blanks the same).
- Once the blanks are cut to size, then they are held by a chuck in the lathe and drilled through using the correct size drill bit for the tube/kit chosen.
- After blanks are drilled, the tubes must be colored or painted on the off chance that turning the item may lead to transparent portions on the pen where you could see the brass tube.
- Mix up some two-part epoxy and let sit overnight.
