I recently found out about the $50 Bonsai Challenge so of course I had to join in on the fun. Spent all weekend picking my brain about what to do in order to get a tree and a pot that I thought would be exciting enough. Ultimately I decided on this mug I saw at the nursery while on a bike ride the other day, a pot will have to come later though as finding a pot for $22 that will house this pine and still look nice will definitely be a trick so tha fully I have plenty of time for that 😅.
Got the $40 tree for $28 due to a Labor Day/end of the season sale at the local nursery. Brought it home and did part 1 of this top down repot method where you clear out the top half of soil the first year and then the second half the following year leaving you with a complete transition to bonsai soil while still leaving half of the roots and their myco alone. Next will be pruning away alot of the bar/redundant branchs in the spring after the tree has time to recover from me repotting it today.
