I read something recently that stopped me mid-scroll.

That what moms really want — what so many women really want — isn’t a bigger gift or a grander gesture. It’s just to feel seen. To be thought of. To be loved for who she is, not just for how hard she loves everyone else.

I think about this a lot. The women who make every birthday feel special, who remember what everyone wants, who are in every memory and almost none of the photos. Who give and give and give — and somewhere along the way stopped expecting anything back.

This isn’t a post about buying jewelry. It’s a reminder to think of her. To actually think of her — not as a role, not as a function, but as a person who deserves to feel something that’s just for her.

There’s something about honeycomb that I keep coming back to. Structure that looks effortless. Geometry that nature figured out long before we did.

This is the Honeyed Haven Necklace — bumblebee jasper from Bali, set in sterling silver with hand-sawn honeycomb on both the bail and the front of the pendant.

And that color. The first time I saw bumblebee jasper, I genuinely didn’t believe it was natural. That yellow — that electric, almost impossible yellow — felt like something that had to be dyed or treated or somehow made by human hands. It’s not. Mother Nature just decided to do that. Amber, ochre, deep burnt orange, all swirling together in a stone pulled from the earth. It’s one of my favorite stones I’ve ever worked with, and this pendant shows exactly why.

Not every studio day looks like sparks and silver.

Some days it’s spreadsheets and product photos and a very determined to-do list.

Today is a spreadsheet day. I’m getting ready for something I’ve been planning for a while — something big for my people. I’m not quite ready to spill it yet, but if you’re not on my email list, you’re going to want to be. 🍂

Every fall, maple trees drop millions of these. Perfectly engineered, aerodynamically flawless, completely disposable.
I grew up throwing them in the air and watching them helicopter down. I thought they were magic then.

I still do.

So naturally, when I finished my first silver samara, I had to test it.

Reader, it did not helicopter.

Now I spend my time recreating them in sterling silver — sawing, shaping, texturing — one at a time. Seventy-five minutes of hands-on work per pair of earrings. Nature is faster, and apparently a better engineer. But I’d argue mine last longer.

I have single samaras, double samaras, earrings, necklaces. All available now in the shop.

Some things are worth the time.

I had to make this one in a size 6.

Because I knew if I made it in my size, it was never leaving.

This is my Chiapas Amber Honeycomb ring — and it has been testing my willpower since the day I finished it.

Chiapas amber is one of those stones that stops you mid-sentence. Two-toned, warm, and genuinely looks like someone captured honey mid-pour and just... let it set. I surrounded it with honeycomb details all the way around the band and folded the pattern right over the edge of the stone itself, because why stop when you’re having fun.

I made this in the spring. I used to keep bees — before we moved into town and I had to hang up my veil. I missed them more than I expected. So I did what any reasonable jeweler does when they’re feeling sentimental: I made a whole series of honeycomb pieces to honor them.

This one’s a size 6 and it’s available in the shop now.

If you’re new here — hi. I’m Alena.

I make sterling silver jewelry rooted in the natural world, out of my little home studio in Sheridan, Wyoming.

The past month has been a whirlwind. Three back to back shows, homeschooling and two and half weeks on the road. It has been full and good and exhausting in the best way.

Now I’m home. Trying to get myself organized, get back at the bench, and plan for the next few months. Right now I’m deep in custom work — pieces made specifically for the people who commissioned them, which is some of my favorite and most challenging work to do. Nothing new on the shop floor yet, just heads-down making.

This is the part I don’t always talk about online. The quiet weeks between shows where it’s just me and the silver and the work. The planning, the behind the scenes organizing and website and photos and on and on and on.
