Studio update finally got this Facebook marketplace find running, the bearings were starting to experience calling because the oil passages were completely clogged with dirt lint from the past 30 years and the boot maker that this machine came from probably never took it apart. Even the timing belt was broken.

8 years working on a plausible simple one pot Cochineal recipe that didn’t need a laboratory to get good reds. This would be the most likely ingredients available to Navajo weaver during the peak of the 19th century New Mexican weaving revival spear headed by the Bazan Brothers as they combined and traded with Pueblo and Navajo weaving traditions. One even married into a Family with Navajo roots born from slavery that would become the matriarchy of the Hubbells. Tin Retablos artistry also peaked along with the weavings of the period as reds were produced locally among the different cultures. So a simple one pot cochineal recipe, Vinegar (mission orchards), Tin scrapes from the tin smiths, Local water not rain collected, matter root & Cochineal (Brazan inventory). Tin and cochineal were available in pre Columbian times while perhaps natural acids as well but more likely vinegar as it was a commodity the missions farms were interested in producing as soon as they were established. All these ingredients could plausibly be available as early as the 1650s. So enterprising weavers could have used this recipe for simplicity a one pot and done red.

gallupARTS has verified that the location of a New Deal landscape painting by D. Paul Jones is no longer known. gallupARTS has obtained the attached image of the artwork (a digitized version of a slide photograph) from Gallup McKinley County Schools, to which the artwork had been loaned by the New Mexico Federal Art Project. gallupARTS has evidence of the painting being at Roosevelt Elementary in 2006, and has confirmed that GMCS has no more recent documentation on the painting. We are asking community members with knowledge of this painting to anonymously share what information they have using a Google Form: https://forms.gle/PLCGYNZQXg4P5eAF8
