✨ Good taste doesn’t have to be universally understood.

In fact, some of the most interesting homes are the ones that aren’t.

They have the painting someone else might have passed on. The vintage piece that doesn’t perfectly “go” with everything else. The odd little object that has no business being there—except that it means something to the person who lives there.

That’s what makes a home feel personal.

I don’t believe your home should be designed around what will impress everyone else. It should be shaped around what you love, what matters to you, and the things you want to live with.

So the next time you find yourself wondering, “Will people like this?”

Maybe ask a different question:

“Do I want to live with it?”

Because your home doesn’t need to make sense to everyone else.

It just needs to make sense to you. 😊

Maybe farmhouse was never meant to be a look.

Before “farmhouse” became a design aesthetic, these homes were simply responding to real life.

To climate.
To materials.
To the work happening around them.
To the people living there.

A farmhouse in New England could look completely different from one in the South—and both could be exactly what they were supposed to be.

So maybe the question isn't:

“How do I make this room look farmhouse?”

Maybe it's:

“How should this home live?”

Because the best farmhouse design isn't about checking the right boxes.

It's about creating spaces that feel useful, welcoming, unfussy, and connected to the place they're in.

And maybe that's what we've loved about farmhouse all along.

Not the look.
The way it lives.

A beautiful room can still be a bad room.

Because good design isn't just about choosing beautiful furniture, colors, and finishes. Before any of that, the room has to work.

Three things I think we often underthink:

→ Layout + flow — Can you actually move through the space naturally?

→ Scale — Do the size and visual weight of the pieces make sense for the room?

→ Storage — Where does all the real-life stuff go?

And yes, I'm going to say it again: not every kitchen needs an island. 😂

Sometimes the best design decision is the thing you don't force into the room.

Because your home isn't a photograph.

It's your life.

✨The renovation mistake nobody warns couples about…

It’s not choosing the wrong contractor.

It’s not picking the “wrong” countertops.

And it’s not even going over budget.

It’s spending a fortune creating a home that neither of you truly loves.

When couples have different design preferences, it’s easy to get stuck in the cycle:

“Too modern.”
“Too traditional.”
“Too dark.”
“Too plain.”

So you compromise.

Then second-guess.

Then compromise again.

But here’s the thing: you may not actually disagree about style as much as you think.

You may simply be starting with what you like instead of defining how you want your home to feel.

Before choosing finishes, furniture, or a design style, get clear on that first.

Because the goal isn’t a home where one person “wins.”

It’s a home that feels like both of you. 🤍

And honestly? That conversation can save you from some very expensive design decisions.
