✈️🏛️ Congress created the shutdown that broke airport security. Delta punished them by making them use it.
Delta Air Lines suspended its specialty services for members of Congress on March 24, 2026, citing the ongoing government shutdown. Lawmakers will no longer receive airport escorts, red coat assistance, or VIP treatment when flying Delta. They will be treated like any other passenger based on their SkyMiles loyalty status. The Capital Desk reservation line remains open but without the extras.
The move came a week after Delta CEO Ed Bastian called it "inexcusable" that TSA workers are not being paid and days after the Senate unanimously voted to end the perk allowing Congress to skip TSA lines. The DHS shutdown, now in its second month, has left TSA agents working without pay. Over 480 have quit, callout rates hit 40% at Atlanta's airport, and wait times exceeded four hours.
Delta said its priority is taking care of its people and customers, "which has become increasingly difficult in the current environment."
What are your thoughts on corporations taking actions like this during political events? Do you think it makes a difference?
