After much stress and collaboration with Facebook, we were finally able to gain access of our original page Maine Wood Heat Co.
As the Maine Wood Heat Co page has been in existence far longer- we will be changing the name of Maine Wood Heat Co to Maine Oven Craft.

In 2019, we completed a hand-crafted wood-fired oven installation at Chatham University — and recently, we received an update that perfectly captures why we build what we build.

Cassandra, who has overseen the oven since it was installed, shared that it has become an integral part of campus life. It’s fired up at least once a month — even through the winter — bringing students and staff together around live fire.

Each academic year, a Master’s student steps into the role of “Fire Master,” leading trainings, planning events, and managing the oven calendar. A leadership role centered around wood, flame, and food — we love that.

Cassandra also teaches a regional grains course that uses the oven weekly. As the semester unfolds, students focus on a different grain each week, creating new recipes in the oven. For their final project, they develop their own recipe using a local grain. She shared how incredible it is to watch each student grow — from hesitant first fire to confidently cooking with flame by semester’s end.

This is the meaning behind every hand-crafted oven we build. They’re not just masonry and steel — they’re spaces for learning, gathering, and passing knowledge forward.

And for those who appreciate the craft itself — the oven remains in perfect condition even after years of use.
