Another Dutch Pour completed! This one is called "A Grandmother's Heart". No painting will ever completely define the feeling of my heart absolutely bursting with the love and pride I have for my grandsons. But, this one kinda does.
They complete me.
Are you a grandmother? Grandfather? Mother? Father? Drop a pic below and show me what makes your heart complete!

This was a box made for a woman's best friend...
So many people are carrying heavy hearts everyday. Lift your friends and families in your daily prayers.
Much love to all of you. Stay safe. Stay grounded. Trust God. But above all, be nice.

Keep my friend Erin in your prayers. She has completed her chemo for breast cancer but still has a surgery coming up... as someone who has never had a mammogram, I'll be getting one soon. My excuse has always been that there's no family history of breast cancer in my family... guess what? Neither did Erin. She's doing better now but could always use some prayers to ease her anxiety. 🙏

Had to wait until Ruthie opened her gift...! She loved it! On the outside is 3 generations: grandmother, mother and daughter Ruthie. Ruthie used to enjoy fishing with her momma and now carries on making memories with her children (inside pic). Happy Mother's Day Ruthie!

Very rarely do I get to see them open their presents...

It started out as snowflakes that I added glitter to for 52 workplace employee gifts. Then came their names... 52 of them... 52 different people with different emotions, families and their own personalities.... Yet, I had to make each one of these individuals the EXACT same gift. It broke my heart. Lumping them all together and making all the same gifts was so much easier and cheaper, but to me it was so insensitive. It was right then that I decided to add my own special touch. I did finish those boring snowflakes, but decided to just put them on our workplace tree....
I ended up going right to our local hobby store and bought 60 cheap clear Christmas balls and decorated each one with whatever I had in my house... newspaper, glitter, construction paper, magazine pictures, and/or stickers. They weren’t perfect, but they spoke to each one of my friends and let them know that “they” were God’s perfect gift and their lives and stories had made an impact on my life.
The next year, I found my little wooden boxes and started making new gifts for friends and families... Slowly, those friends started showing their boxes to other people and then the orders started flowing in. They were mostly for children, but I would occasionally get an order for an adult.
One day, my nephew said “Why don’t you start a business?” My little hobby had grown a lot and I was starting to get more and more arguments from my husband every time I would grab my wallet and head to the store. I absolutely loved making these gifts, but financially it was causing a stir at home. It really made me feel awkward to charge people for doing something I truly loved doing, but I knew I could no longer continue doing it for free.
Cornered Memories was then created with the help of my nephew Kyle. He helped me to “develop” my business and was always very supportive of my new adventure. I promised him that when I became a millionaire, that I would give him a cut of the profits. Hahaha.
So, that’s my story. I am always in my office, sitting at my desk that my husband made me with the tabletop my father had made me when I was little. I work on my boxes when I get home from a 12-hour shift as an ICU RN. Painting and decorating my boxes help me relax and mentally work through whatever life has handed me. I physically hold each box for several minutes before even starting it and filling them with their own memories.
Thank you for reading. May God bless you in your daily endeavors. If you ever find yourself stuck in life, find your “glittery snowflake” and turn it into your own individual, unique “box” with whatever you can. Don’t ever settle with boring. Find a way to shine.
