So many cornices! And I've got about 25 more of them to make in the next couple of months. They're versatile and can be made to fit in any decor style. From plain and simple to shapely and ornate, they are the perfect topper.

Upholstering armchairs is difficult for me to do. There are thousands of staples or nails to be removed, they're heavy and need to be moved into all kinds of weird positions, and my body screams at me the whole time, and for days afterwards. I usually just say no. However, if you catch me at a time when I'm low on work, I'll probably say yes. In this case, a repeat client had two identical chairs and ottomans her mother in law purchased in 1970. One of them (the black vinyl one) had been reupholstered at some point, but I think the flame stitch one was original. I did the two sets separately, so there are a few minor differences, but we used the same fabric on all. It's a beautiful black/gray/beige houndstooth check. The tufted backs, chair seat cushions, and the tufted top part of the ottomans are down filled and fluffed up beautifully. I removed the skirts on the flamestitch set so they matched the other set. I think they turned out beautifully, but I have to admit I'm glad they're finished! Between these and the 17 ft long draperies, I need a massage and a vacation!!

A few months ago I was contacted by the Stained Glass Theater in Newport, Kentucky to see if I'd be interested in making draperies for these beautiful stained glass windows. This historic building now houses a theater, but was originally a church as you can probably guess. The draperies needed to solve a couple of problems they had, which was muffling unnecessary sound and blocking out light from the exterior. They had already found a fabric suitable for these purposes, but needed to have me make the draperies with a blackout lining to make sure they blocked out all the light. The draperies are mounted on 3/4" plywood cut to fit the curve at the top of the window. Plywood is attached flat to the wall, and the draperies are attached with velcro on the top edge. They are just slightly gathered, just enough to add fullness to muffle sound, about 150% fullness. As you can see from the pictures they are very tall windows. The draperies themselves are almost 17 ft long. So you can imagine how tall the ceilings are in this building, and the amount of echo that takes place in there. They will also be installing something to hold back the draperies while there is not a play in progress, right now they're being held back by people to show what it would look like. This was a difficult job to complete, because of the extreme weight of the fabric and blackout lining, and also because of having to follow the template for the arch of the window without messing up the straight bottom edge. I was quite nervous about that! But it looks like the really difficult part of this job is installing them, which luckily I did not have to do. Although I hated making something that would cover up the beautiful artwork of these very old stained glass windows, I'm pretty proud of the way they turned out, and the fact that they will solve the problems they had with these windows, and I'm happy that they'll be pulled back to expose the windows when they're not needed.

The next production at the Stained Glass Theater happens this September.
It is "1776", and I'm told it has an all female cast. Check it out!

I've always wanted a window seat where I could curl up with a good book or have plenty of natural light for drawing, but I don't have one. If you are lucky enough to have one, I'd love to make you a soft comfy cushion to curl up on, like this one that was picked up today. This window seat is particularly enticing to me because its not in the middle of a room, it's on a landing of a stairway, where you can escape other humans and have some peace and quiet. I've worked with these clients for over 25 years, in which time they've lived in 3 different houses.

This was my last job of 2025, installed just before Christmas. The blue floral fabric is unusual, it is made from 2 layers. The front fabric that you see is silky and shiny, while the back fabric is more of a chenille. The embroidery runs through both layers, which creates a wrinkled effect on the front. The cornices are made in 3 sections and I made the pattern of the fabric continue across all 3 sections. The caramel brown boxed pillows are made from a velvety corduroy, and the window seat cushion is made from a sturdy salt and pepper gray upholstery fabric.
This project was made for a client I've had for many years, and this is the third time I've dressed this area of their home. They have a large family that tends to gather in the kitchen, so this area gets a lot of use. They wanted to have it finished for their Christmas gathering as their adult children were coming into town. So I made it happen!

For the last 15 years or so I've been collecting fabrics. Not just any fabrics, but the most beautiful and unique fabrics I could find. I buy them up when companies go out of business, or the fabrics are discontinued and deeply discounted. I've been told that she who dies with the most fabric wins! But that's not my goal. My goal is to use these beautiful fabrics to make ready made items to sell in my "retirement", same custom quality, but with lower pricing. The day will come, and it's not far away, when I'll no longer be able to make 12 ft wide cornices or climb on ladders to install draperies. So since I can't fit any more fabrics into my house, it's time for me to start using them. More details are coming soon!

These retailed for between $150 to $200 PER YARD. I snatched them up at a deep discount, so I can make some beautiful things for your home at a reasonable price.
