Working on another 3x4’ piece for the fun of it

I have always ALWAYS loved stormy weather, and when big storms go over the expanses of Eastern Washington, my heart melts. They are visually so stunning, and immensely powerful.

So, this is my love letter to storms in Eastern Washington and I hope I can depict some of that energy… or capture the energy of the storm… like lightning in a bottle…? Eh? Get it? Sorry.

I meant to share this over at least a couple of different posts, but I kind of like getting to show ya’ll start to finish process on this piece!

This is for the Ink Rally at Emerge September 12th! The prompt this year was “Eclipse” so I incorporated the scientific drawing of an eclipse along with some popular constellations.

This material (MDF board) cuts like butter I think I have a new fave medium to carve! The transferring of the design was done with a huge printout with graphite paper underneath, and that took over an hour to do.

I carved over the past three days and put in a total of 7 1/2 hours of carving to complete this piece! My largest piece I’ve ever done at 3x4’

I had to go to Woodcraft halfway through because I needed a wider carving tool for the large spaces I needed to remove, my biggest gauge before the newest one was about 1/5 the size of the said new one. So glad I grabbed that before trying to clear so much wood with something so tiny 🤣💀

Now all there is to do is wait, and maybe add some stars if I feel like some spots need them haha just a few of these prints will be for sale at the event, and I cannot wait to see what other folks have come up with!!

Newest block design!

I needed to test out this board material to see how it behaved prior to carving on it for the Emerge Ink Print Rally, and I am now obsessed with it. It’s so smooth and satisfying.

Inspired by the art nouveau style, I wanted to try something different with my design. Faces are still hard but they’re getting easier 🤣

I have been so excited to share this with folks!

I recently took a class at Casting Glass Stones studio and through that I was introduced to the wonderful Ebbie. Fast forward to today and I am so beyond stoked to announce that I was invited to host workshops in her gorgeous space!

First class is September 11th and there are a limited number of spots, so sign up now! I cannot wait to teach classes again, and I cannot wait to offer more in the future in this amazing studio.

Your first punkrockfleamarketspokane came to you, and you welcomed them with open arms.

This thank you post can’t be filled with enough gratitude and love. My cup runneth over. This event was a healing balm to my wearied soul. Joy and art are the resistance, and ya’ll proved that to be true throughout this event. And I met so many amazing like minded creators/makers/vendors!!!

Punk is: love, encouragement, hope, righteous rage, community, joy, celebration, unity.

This event refreshed my perspective and gave me that serotonin boost I so desperately needed. I wish I could have chatted to our hearts content with very single one of you, but at least I got to chat with some of you. Thank you Spokane for showing up and supporting this beautiful community. Thanks to you guys I will be able to add a good chunk of change to the contributions to the H.O.M.E. Starts Here fund. Ya’ll rock, seriously.

Today, 8/9 is the last day of Spokane’s first Punk Rock Flea Market, and it has been an epic weekend!

I got the most magical amazing opportunity to come BACK today!!

THANK YOU!

Today was the first day of Spokane’s first ever punkrockfleamarketspokane !!! Jenny and Kris. Holy smokes, you guys have brought something special to Spokane and I cannot thank you enough for everything you’ve done to pull this event off!

The vibes were immaculate, the joy was palpable and I think we all found a bit of a connection with each other. I met so many new people and I cannot wait to see what this market becomes! Lots of love you guys 🫶🏻😘

I lied, there was one more new print that I finished!

This one was an attempt to try out a new concept for a series. I’m wanting to play with stark contrasts or lights and shadows. Something like that. I like the simplicity.
