I’m one of the lucky few… my cats don’t bother my plants much. But if yours do, here are some pet safe plants that aren’t colorless or boring. 😉

As always, hoyas are my favorite on this list, but really, all of these are great plants. Comment your favorite pet safe plant below! Let’s get a fantastic list of recommendations going.

I’m definitely team cachepot. What about you? Do you plant directly into decorative pots?

Since starting to leave my plants in their nursery pots, I’ve noticed less root rot, more growth (from better watering habits), easier transplants, and overall less plant-related stress. And if I’m ever worried about a plant, I can simply de-pot it. You sure can’t do that easily potted directly into a decorative pot!

What I didn’t mention here was my secret weapon: clear nursery pots. Not everyone in my home has one yet, but someday! These clear pots allow me to see what’s going on under the soil without having to de-pot. Which is even cooler!

Good plant care isn’t perfect. Green thumbs sure as hell aren’t. Even I forget sometimes that a yellow leaf or two is normal—natural even. I can get so stuck on waiting for that new growth to finally start that the second I see a sign of decline, I want to pull back my efforts.

“I failed.”

But that’s when the real growth happens.

Plant will always tell you when something is wrong. And the fun of caring for them isn’t always seeing new leaves & blooms (though that is pretty fun), it’s getting to learn their particular quirks, playing detective to figure out what went wrong, nursing them back to health after you almost killed them (again).

So friends, water your plants, take a deep breath, we’ve got this ❤️

September has not one, but TWO classes! We’ll be teaching all about beginner propagation on Sept 15 & then hosting a Cactus Garden Workshop Sept 29. Read more about each event below. Tickets are limited so get yours now via our website.

Propagation 101: During this class we walk you through how to propagate 4 different ways, in 4 different substrates. You’ll leave with 10-12 cuttings that you cut yourself (with guidance), 3 prop boxes & a prop vase, well over ticket value. Tickets are $40 per person.

Cactus Garden Workshop: Make your very own cactus bowl during this fun take on a terrarium workshop! We will have glass, plants & accessories available for purchase during the event, but you are welcome to bring your own. Tickets are $15 per person & cover both soil & decorative rock.

5 silly habits that keep my plants alive & thriving:

I check them every morning as a part of my routine. This makes me feel prouder of the smallest growth, but also helps me catch pests and other issues early.
I grow my plants in a mix of semi-hydroponics and soil so not everything needs a weekly water.
I fertilize every payday (biweekly). This is the only way I’ve been able to be consistent & it shows.
I don’t get upset when a plant dies. This one took awhile for me personally, but now that it isn’t as hard to say goodbye to a plant that just isn’t thriving, I’m so much happier and so are my other plants.
I’m not perfect with my plant care. I forget waterings. I don’t clean my plants regularly enough. I keep them in too low of light at times. But, healthy plants come from consistency, not perfection.

These might be obvious to some, but they definitely weren’t for me when I first started taking care of plants. It’s all about growth here 😉
