We asked our artists what they like best about Spruce Pine Potters Market...
Daniel Garver replied, "It is a real honor to be a member of the Spruce Pine Potters Market. The group is filled with very talented potters and sculptors that make a very diverse array of ceramic work. The SPPM is much more than just a weekend show, so much work goes into planning and ex*****on to put it on each year. I really enjoy working as a group to organize it all, and the show is really a culmination of all that work. The weekend show is so much fun to see what everyone has been working on throughout the year and getting to share all of it with our audience is so fulfilling!"

Andy Palmer replied, "The biggest plus to the SPPM is honestly enjoying the company of the other ceramicists in the group. They're really just a fantastic group that anyone would love to hang out with."

Come hang out with us.

Join us October 11 & 12th for the Spruce Pine Potters Market at the Cross Street Building in Spruce Pine, NC! See link in profile for more detailed information.

We are delighted to have Julie Wiggins in our 2026 show! When we asked Julie what was exciting her in the studio she replied, "Pinchy Porcelain with a continued nod to history. my current body of work is a reflection of my recent studies and travels to Italy and Greece last year. I'm jazzed up to debut these sweeties this Fall. Using the wood/salt kiln as a compliment to the forms and imagery to soften the surface with a subtle ash and salt deposits that gives an antiquey feel."

Come see her new work October 10th and 11th, here in Spruce Pine!

The Spruce Pine Potters Market is an annual show that is managed and organized by our artists who live and work in a two county area of western North Carolina. The rich history of craft in this region, along with the renowned Penland School of Craft, has brought these artists to call this area home. Our unique combination of artists sets the stage for a dynamic show.

We can't wait to see Lisa Joerling's new energetic and joyous work at SPPM this year!
When asked about her studio routine she says, "I love working at the studio in the morning when I have the most energy. That's when I like to throw pots on the wheel. Then after a round of pots, I move to other pots in progress to trim, add handles, or carve patterns. I love this stage of the making when the pots are in the final stages of making. I love to listen to a variety of things, music, podcasts, audio books, and also silence; it just depends on my mood and focus level!"

See Lisa's work and all the other fantastic SPPM artists on October 10th and 11th, 2026! Check our website for details.

Jenny Lou Sherburne will brighten the Cross Street Building again this year for our annual Spruce Pine potter's market.

"My primary method is throwing on the potters wheel. Then, I generally alter the forms, by manipulating the clay with my hands, pushing, pinching, darting or stacking pieces. Finally, I carve and add textures then bisque and glaze with lots of colors! I use a white mid fire clay fired to cone 5 and an earthenware clay fired to cone 05."

When asked for advice to young artist, Jenny Lou responds,

"When you truly enjoy what you're doing it generally strikes a chord with and speaks to (many) people. The inverse is true though, if you are trying to make things by someone else's rules or aesthetics it won't ring true to (most) people. Find your own voice."
