Custom cabinetry and a waterfall stone island bring a more architectural feel to this St. Louis kitchen renovation. Inspired by mid-century modern design, the space balances warm wood tones, clean lines, and functional layout planning designed around how the homeowners actually live.

Custom mudroom cabinetry for a heritage home in St. Louis. Deep green built-ins, vertical beadboard, and a solid cherry bench seat bring warmth and function to this hardworking space, while the integrated desk area ensures no square footage goes unused.

Most kitchens look good…
until you actually try to use them.

This is why.

A cabinet with a door vs. a stack of drawers.

On paper, they both “store things.”
In real life? Not even close.

Cabinets turn into black holes.
You stack. You dig. You forget what’s in the back.

Drawers fix that.

Everything pulls out.
Everything is visible.
Everything is usable.

Same footprint. Completely different experience.

This is the difference between a kitchen that looks finished…
and one that actually works every day.

I don’t design around cabinets.
I design around how you live.

Because cabinetry is just the tool —
layout is what actually changes how your kitchen functions.

Most kitchens aren’t actually small… they’re just designed backwards.

This one had a large footprint… but only about 4 sq ft of usable prep space on either side of the cooktop 😬

So even though it looked like a big kitchen, it didn’t function like one.

No real prep zones.
No landing space.
No place for people to gather without getting in the way.

➡️ After:

We added an 8 ft kitchen island with seating — and everything changed.

Now the kitchen has:
• Generous prep space
• Clear cooking + prep zones
• Functional kitchen layout that flows
• Seating that actually works for real life

Because the issue was never the size…
it was the layout.

This is what I do.

I take kitchens that feel frustrating, inefficient, or awkward —
and redesign them so they actually work for how you live.

Kitchen layout matters more than cabinet style. Every time.

If you’re in St. Louis and your kitchen looks big but doesn’t function like it…
that’s exactly the problem I solve.

This is what happens when you stop playing it safe with materials.

We did a full copper backsplash + the countertop was a raw sawn wood slab finished by the talented homeowner. It completely changed the feel of the space. It’s warm, a little moody, and fully custom — not like something you’ve seen 100 times.

Paired it with a deep blue cabinetry, kept the lines really clean, and let the materials do the work.

Key notes about this space:
– Keep the palette tight so it doesn’t feel busy
– Mix materials, but in a controlled way
– Making sure everything feels cohesive (fixtures, finishes, proportions)

Anyone can add a bar. This is about designing something that actually feels considered.

If you’re renovating and don’t want a generic result, this is exactly the level we design to.

Small detail, big impact.

This custom niche beside the range keeps cooking oils and everyday essentials right where you need them — functional, clean, and intentional. No clutter, no reaching across the kitchen.

Paired with a classic, timeless hood style and warm wood cabinetry, this is where design and function meet.

This is what happens when everything is fully thought through before construction.

St. Louis kitchen design done right.

This hood is doing the work—and that’s the point.

Instead of all white, we brought in a soft blue to anchor the range wall and create a real focal point. The curve softens it, everything else supports it, and nothing feels added on at the end.

This is what a fully thought-through kitchen looks like.

Designed for a St. Louis kitchen renovation.

A vanity, but treated like furniture.

The curve softens the corner.
The fluting catches the light.
The stone does what it wants.

A range hood should never feel like an add-on.

This one was designed as the focal point from the start — finished with hand-hammered copper by a St. Louis artisan, set against a matte black form for contrast and depth.

Every line is intentional.
Every material earns its place.

This is what happens when cabinetry, metalwork, and proportion are considered together — not selected separately.

St. Louis–based kitchen and cabinetry design.
