Snake Life Carvings

Snake Life Carvings My passion for carving snakes comes from my love and admiration for these reptiles.

I’ve personally owned and worked with snakes for over 25 years so I have intimate knowledge of the size, scale and structure of my subjects.

My sister had an antique art frame for a slate chalkboard that broke, it was from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. I made a new frame for the slate, but took the broken frame and glued all the parts back together and added some accent wood (Peruvian walnut) and made a small box out of it. That wood can now have a second life. This makes me so happy. πŸ€—πŸͺ΅

Making progress on all 4 of these projects this weekend. The first is going to be a Burmese Python with a Smooth Green snake periscoping off its head carved in spalted hard maple, the second is a large Burmese Python carved in pine, I’m still undecided on what kind of Python I’m going to do on the walnut walking cane. Either a Burmese, a Labyrinth or an African Rock Python. The last project is a wall plaque of an American Alligator head in walnut which will hold the Rod of Asclepius that I made for my step son (he’s a University of Florida grad so it seemed fitting). 🐍πŸͺ΅

After far too long, finally nearing the end of this project! These are hatchling loggerhead turtles. 2 of them will be attached to a sea shell box I built, and the rest will be able to be handled for education purposes. Definitely took way longer than I expected. 🐒

I have the most commissions I’ve ever had this year, and I’m trying to get through them as quick as possible. Currently working on the Python trophy, a Gator head wall plaque to hang the Rod of Asclepius, 2 keepsake boxes with loggerhead hatchings and now starting this Python walking cane made from black walnut. 🐍🐍🐍
