I found some really great old salt glazed stoneware crocks on a little antiquing day trip with my granddaughter Ava this Friday. Peggy and I collected a few of these over the years and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get a few more.  The large ovoid shaped crock is the first one of these for our collection. The rest were just very interesting. Especially the small Keystone Heinz pickle crock. The Warner and Russell crock was also kind of special because it’s from West Virginia where Peggy‘s mother was raised. 🤗

I refurbished a couple of old peach orchard crates and applied vintage 1927 Pecan Valley coffee labels to them to add some character to them. I had done a couple of these about a month ago and when I took them to the shop, wasn’t sure how they’d be received, but evidently someone liked them because they only stayed in the booth for a couple of days. I still had some old labels so I thought well I’ll do a couple more.  The child’s saddle tree is a little out of my wheelhouse. Sometimes you have to listen to the ladies. My good friend Kim suggested I paint this one with a turquoise and get out of my comfort zone. She thought it would make a nice display piece.  I still have some work to do on it, but I’m really glad I listened to her.🤗

Working on refurbishing a few more old crates and a wooden saddle tree. Each one of these presents its own challenges, cracked boards, stains, sometimes over painted. I just try to highlight as much of the original graphics as possible and either use a clear lacquer or natural oil finish on them. The old saddle trees can be really labor intensive, I probably have about 7-8 hours of work invested in refurbishing this one.🔨
