Mill Mondays - Our sourcing philosophy

Our sourcing philosophy lives in the relationships we’ve built with sawyers and suppliers who share our values. Many of these partnerships span decades, even generations, grounded in mutual trust and respect for the wood. These craftspeople know exactly what we seek: tight grain, heartwood-rich centers, clean structure, and character that tells a story, not chaos. Together, we protect a legacy of responsible sourcing that honors the forest and elevates the finished floor.

Carlisle Engineered Floors vs. other engineered.

David of Genuine Wood Floors calls choosing Carlisle engineered an upgrade. it starts with center-cut American hardwood and a 4mm wear layer, where mass-market engineered runs 1 to 2mm. beneath it, a marine-grade baltic birch core, always cross-plied, in planks up to 12 ft.

Some differences show up years from now, when the floor has been refinished and still feels like the one you chose.

A foundation made to stay with your home for generations.

Made in the USA. MAS Certified Green.

Reclaimed floors - perfect for character

One of the biggest things to understand about your new reclaimed floor is that it will have “character.”

When we craft a reclaimed floor we are salvaging material that is hundreds of years old!

It has been weathering storms on the outside of a barn in Ontario; it has been worked on for 150 years in an industrial factory in Boston; it has been re-sawn from the 2″ thick floorboards of an Ohio cattle barn.

This means that your floor will have nail holes, knots, cracks, splits in the boards, original saw marks, and color variations — just to name a few remnants from its past life.

If you love the idea of character and the unpredictability that comes with it, then reclaimed flooring is a gorgeous option and Carlisle’s manufacturing process will make sure the boards you receive will be both aesthetic and suitable.

Not available in engineered structure.

Always Carlisle - A Generational Re-Build on the Coast of Maine

Rich grew up near the Carlisle mill in southwestern New Hampshire, so an appreciation for the craft was already part of the story. Today, he and his wife, Anne, carry that same eye for thoughtful design. When they set out to rebuild their forever home on the Maine coast, Anne’s style, which is grounded in natural materials, quiet warmth, and a strong sense of place, shaped every decision.

From there, it came down to the details: the tones, textures, and materials that would make the home feel both personal and lasting. Anne had always dreamed of having wood in every room. Watch as Anne and Rich share how that long-held vision finally came to life on the Maine coast.

The Craft of Color Matching - this process allows us to create thousands of colors.

For new floors, we offer a curated color line and a custom color line. We do all of our colors in house to ensure they are perfect and that we have a copy of your color in case you ever need a replacement board.

We also offer color matching. Where we take a sample of the original floor and our team matches the color. A great option for home additions. We get requests to match floors that are HUNDREDS of years old - and again, because we do this in house and is part of our craftsmanship, we absolutely can.

When a water leak left the existing hardwood floors of this downtown Nashville residence beyond repair, Jessica Mattioni of Sycamore Ridge Homes saw an opportunity to build upon what was already working.

Mattioni approached the space with a thoughtful hand, preserving the homeowner’s existing art, furniture, and accessories while introducing a new foundation that could bring everything together. The goal was a home that felt distinctly Parisian.

For Mattioni, the floor was never simply a finish. “Flooring sets the tone for the entire home,” she says. “The floor is what guides you through the home.” Carlisle’s Engineered White Oak in Enduring Mountain provides that continuity throughout the residence, its soft, natural character complementing the room’s neutral palette, sculptural furnishings, and expansive Nashville views.
