To overseed a lawn, the following steps can be taken:
Prepare the lawn by mowing it shorter than usual and removing any debris or large clumps of grass.

Rake the seed into the soil, making sure that it falls into the aeration holes.

Keep the soil consistently moist until the new grass reaches a height of 2-3 inches.
Fertilize the newly seeded area with a starter fertilizer.
