Good morning!! ☀️ So glad you can tune in to Coffee & Grace with Jennifer! I pray this devotional encourages you and points you closer to Jesus.
A few days ago I had this light bulb moment. To set the scene: I was having a rough morning already to begin with. The kids were crabby. I felt like I was running on empty, because I struggled to sleep the night before. The house was a wreck. I had about 5 thousand loads of laundry to do. Every task seemed to grow bigger and bigger in my head. I was trying to please everyone and fulfill everyone’s needs, that it came to a point where I just knew, if I kept on this way I would explode in a million emotions.
I collapsed on the couch already feeling defeated and it was only 10am. And that’s when it hit me. My kids ran back and forth from the dinning room to the living room and usually I’m quick to say “stop running,” but today I just watched. I paused. I cringed when my daughter fell, but watched my son quickly help her up. I watched her eyes brighten up as if someone truly came to her rescue.
From where I was sitting, the pile of dishes looked like a taunting mountain, but I knew I needed to sit and watch and listen. It was perfectly peaceful. Don’t get me wrong. There was screaming and yelling and some crying but my mind was not running miles. I was not thinking about the next thing I needed to do. I was still. It was a moment of clarity. It was peace.
I realized then, that’s what Jesus wants from us; a moment of clarity where it’s just you and Him. Because truthfully, our minds are always bouncing from one thing to the next. We don’t take a moment to pause and just thank God. Work gets priority, the kids get priority, our spouse gets priority and we leave God at the very bottom of the list and mark Him as tomorrow’s task.
How can you prioritize Jesus this week? Is there something you can eliminate in order to put Jesus first. Maybe it’s social media or the tv? Maybe it’s simple things that seem to take your focus. God desires to be a priority in your life and not just another task that needs to get done.
The Bible says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” - Mathew 6:33. When we do this we are showing that we truly love Him. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”- Matthew 22:37
Jesus becomes the first thing on our minds and that’s exactly where He wants to be!
Prayer: Thank You God for Your guidance and instructions. Thank You for reminding us to seek You first. We fail at times but I ask that You would help us get back up. Thank You for being so good to us. I pray that everyone who was able to read this devotional desires to grow closer to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Thank you for joining me today!! Reach out to someone and spread the good news this week. See you next Monday for another Coffee & Grace with Jennifer!
