Southern living is really an indoor-outdoor lifestyle in disguise. On the Coburn Hutchinson House, the balconette has become one of our favorite spots to prove it- just enough space to catch the breeze, take in the view, and blur the line between the inside of the house and the world just beyond it. ⁠

Catch it at golden hour, and the whole space glows; it's easily one of the most beautiful moments of the day here. It's a small architectural detail, but it captures everything we love about designing for the South: airflow, light, and a reason to step outside even for a minute!⁠

Making an entrance! First impressions matter, and your entrance is the very first thing your home says to anyone who walks up. A well-designed entryway sets the tone before a guest even steps inside... it can feel welcoming, intentional, and completely you, or like an afterthought. We love treating entrances as their own design moment: the perfect lighting, the right greenery, a touch of personality on the door. It's a small space that carries a lot of weight, and it needs to make it count.

We don't do boring bathrooms! This one started as a blank slate and turned into one of our favorite spaces in the whole house... a deep soaking tub, brass fixtures that catch the light just right, and marble with veining so pretty we didn't want to cover an inch of it. Add fresh flowers and a little sparkle overhead, and suddenly, getting ready for the day feels like a moment!

Neutral interiors and the zeitgeist of design...it's happening now, but why?

Every era has its defining spirit, and right now that spirit is leaning toward soft, grounded, livable spaces. Warm whites, sandy neutrals, layered texture. Not sterile. Not stark. Just beautifully considered. This way you can add as much color to a room as you like! As your mood changes, so can your spaces.

They're the ones that carry meaning. A piece that stops you before you even remember why, and a painting that makes the whole room make sense.

Before & After! Coastal guest bedroom design that vives all the cozy vibes!

The bones were already there...but lets add a beautiful rattan bed, soft gray blue walls, and good natural light. But this coastal bedroom design needed layering, warmth, and the kind of intentional detail that turns a guest room into a space your guests will actually remember!

In came rope-wrapped wall sconces, sagey-aqua velvet pillows, a tropical botanical bolster, crisp white linen bedding, and warm mercury-glass vintage lighting that finally gave this new-build bedroom the coastal personality it deserved.

It's a question I get asked all the time right now... and for good reason. Dark greens are having their moment. But not all dark greens are the same... not even close.

On the SC coast, the light does something very specific to a green. The humidity in the air, the way morning light crosses a Lowcountry room, the way late afternoon turns golden... all of it changes how a color reads on your walls.

She's been standing in Summerville since 1859, and we're restoring her one detail at a time.

The Coburn Hutchinson House is one of only three true Charleston Single homes left in town, so every layer we uncover tells us a little more about her story…and we're documenting all of it here, the good, the messy, and everything in between.
