Boiled peanuts are either amazing… or absolutely disgusting.
Few foods divide people faster than boiled peanuts.

But in Alabama, they’re basically part of the culture. Roadside stands with handwritten signs, giant steaming pots beside the highway, and people stopping like it’s completely normal to buy a bag of hot peanuts from somebody on the side of the road.

If you grew up here, it probably feels normal. If you didn’t? There’s a good chance the texture completely throws you off the first time you try them.

Still, boiled peanuts are tied to road trips, football games, gas stations, and backroads all over Alabama. They’re one of those foods people become weirdly loyal to too. Everybody claims they know the BEST place to get them.

And honestly, part of the fun is arguing about whether they’re actually good or not.

Because in the South, boiled peanuts aren’t just food.

They’re basically a personality test.
