Added to my 5/31 Whatnot Show is this rare 1862 Italian Patriotic silk taffeta tartan plaid gown! Original description: Abito ‘patriottico’- Patriotic dress from the museum collection of Mara Parmegiani.
Description: Italian manufacture. Made of taffettas worked with checkered motifs in the colors of the Italian flag and cord in green silk. The dress has a bustier with a fence and lined in canvas, it is tied at the back, a plume marks the waist. The front ends in a pointed shape, has a straight cut neckline in which a series of folds converge, the sleeves end with a lace wrist. The skirt, very curled at the waist, has three frills cut on the bias finished by the cord. To support the width, this garment needs to be worn with a petticoat and crinoline. It was worn for a celebration of the Unity of Italy.1862.
There is wear and damage, but still so beautiful and rare.
