🌺One of the most beautiful Labor Day weekends I can recall brought out lots of wonderful upickers. Thank you for visiting!

🎶Lauren (and her Mom) just moved to Traverse City from Florida so that Lauren can attend Interlochen Arts Academy. She filled 3 bottles and had a French Marigold tucked behind her ear.

📸 I saw Emily in her pretty dress and took this photo from up on our hill. She was with her husband, Zack, and said they were married just 2 weeks ago. And that picking flowers at OCF is her “very favorite thing to do up north.”

🤵‍♂️Mom Larra and her son, Prospect, picked a bucket full of blooms for a wedding. Prospect is the best man for his brother. Mom and son made for a great u-picking team.

🛥️There was a big yacht in Omena Bay last week and staffer Rachel texted to order a bouquet for one of their guests. She and her jet ski driver met me on the dock at Knot Just a Bar. That was a first!

📣 I grew up in downriver Detroit (Trenton). Great to see Michele Sobocinski Barnes who came by with her family to pick. She and I were cheerleaders together, and stay in touch via social media.

🧡Six sisters come by every year to pick flowers. They live all over the country but gather at the Lake Leelanau home of Pam (in orange, far left.) Admire their annual commitment to spend time together!

❓Last photo—lost my info on these three—two in matching white Birkenstocks with lots of Lisianthus!

🌞Looks like we are in for a fantastic Labor Day weekend, weatherwise. The cooler is full and we are making more bouquets now. We have $10 Zinnia bottles, $18 sunflower bunches, Lisianthus by the stem ($2) and lots of $25 Mason Jars and assorted other arrangements. Not to mention loads of blooms in the field for picking your own. Hope to see you soon!

🌺Dahlias are just beginning. Aren’t they amazing in their symmetry and beauty?

💪Just had to show off a little… pictured here are (clockwise from top) Brown Sugar, Cornel Bronze and Nicholas. Can you tell I’m partial to fall colors when it comes to Dahlias?

🪳Not bagging them yet and so far bugs are not eating them. I don’t know why.

🧡One of the new things I grew this year that I really love are French marigolds. Achiever goal to pick flowers for myself every week accomplished.

I have cut most of the blooming Lisianthus but you can still buy it out of a bucket in my cooler at the U-pick price ($2 per stem.) It’s gorgeous now but I don’t want it to go to waste in the field, where heat, humidity and rain can hasten fading.

💦Two dips into the lake in my clothes today on this incredibly hot and humid September 1st.

💧Grateful as always for the cold, clear water. And the beauty of this place. This photo captures I think just how calm and hazy-hot it was today.

💦Every time I swim I wonder how many more times I will be drawn to the water this year and the relief it provides.

🌺Zinnias are beautiful right now and only .50 a stem. Just think this bunch right here, if you cut it yourself, would cost you about $8.

🌸These are “Oklahoma” Zinnias which I find are the easiest for me to grow.

🌸I’ve always had trouble trying to grow the bigger “Benary Giants.” Those seem to fall pray to the tarnish plant bug which takes a bite out of it and deforms the flower so it doesn’t fully open. Not so with Oklahoma. Most of my blooms are pretty darn perfect. Very proud of this beautiful crop.

🌺I planted several beds of them and there are hundreds out there right now to pick. Sure would hate to see them go to waste!

visitors, late August, ’26

Pre-wedding girlfriends outing (bride Elli in white), DIY wedding flower collectors with my green cart, moms and daughters, friends picking flowers, family weekend outing. “This is the my favorite thing to do when I visit,” said one Mom.

Lady in orange is walking all around M22 and took a photo to remember this leg of her trip.

Tag and share if you wish.

Love all the reasons people come.

🌸We did Esther and Andy’s wedding flowers years ago. They live in Atlanta but come back every summer to visit family, now with adorable little Eleanor. She is also flower lover (and a dog lover too.) SO CUTE. 💙
