NYAME DUA is the Tree or Altar of God and represents His omnipresence. The symbol is said to depict the cross section of a tree stump from above. To me it looks like a clover, four hearts that meet at the points or the crown of tree tops.

In most parts of Africa, Alstonia Boonie or ONYAME DUA can be found and is known as “Sky God’s Tree “ to natives in West Africa . This tree’s medicinal properties are plenty, the wood is used for carpentry and as timber. The tree’s spiritual properties include purification, blessings and connection to the divine.
Similarly, this symbol represents the deep connection the Akan people have with God, their faith and their belief in the Power of God as a place of refuge.

As someone who has sought out shade on the hottest of days, it is encouragement to seek God’s presence and guidance in all aspects of life. If we make our hearts the altar then we can fully connect with The Divine ✨

It became my life- I’ve deleted my ‘personal page’
I am no longer interested in presenting my life in pieces. For as long as I’ve called myself an artist there was an “art page” and a “person page”
2 separate entities- art was a hobby. Something I did when I had the time to spare. However, it started becoming my life. It is my life. It has molded the way I taught children, the way I view everything around me, how I heal, connect, and move through the world.

But I got fired 💀🥲and I ain’t EVERRRR been fired before. After so many years of success in the field, what do I do with this failure? That event forced me to ask myself who am I if not a teacher.

And yet, I got another job doing the same thing as before, I loved the environment except something was different. I was different. Teachers are always told to find their “why.” Somewhere along the way I stopped trying to remember mine and started asking a different question instead:

“Who am I without that specific title?”
And the answer kept finding me, just from trying to understand myself better.

I got tired of being told who I am and started answering for myself. I am an artist. Not just with my paintbrush/pen/camera in hand, but an artist in how I perceive, think, love, and exist.

So good bye personal page, because I’m done dividing myself and wish to express my wholeness.

I’m done compartmentalizing my life.

Today I’m a- “

Nope not anymore.
I am all of these things and so so much more this isn’t my art page anymore.

In all of my being, the messes, the sketches, the lessons and the processes of me becoming more myself than I was yesterday.

NYAME BIRIBI SORO
Looks like two eggs conjoined with a diamond at the point of intersect.
This symbol, NYAME BIRIBI WO SORO represents the enduring belief and trust in God’s benevolence and abundance.

That Nature and its all of its energies and elements are a testament to God’s bountiful blessings.

NYAME BIRIBI WO SORO is a reminder that there are no limits to the treasures and divine gifts that the Heavens hold; and that in our beliefs our reliance is on God as the ultimate source.
It stands as a reminder that we pray to the Almighty for the blessings we seek.

When I see NYAME BIRIBI WO SORO, I think about the lemniscate, or symbol that represents infinity.
Infinity isnt a number but is a mathematical symbol meaning endless or without Limit. I also think about the number eight and how in numerology it is the ultimate symbol of power and material mastery. The triple eight in turn means infinite potential, balance, and universal blessings.

GYE NYAME meaning “Except for God” is an Adinkra symbol of the Akan people of Ghana. A reminder that humanity should not fear anything- Except for God. Not scary AHHH ‘I’m afraid” fear…but the feeling of awe and wonder when facing something much larger and grander than self.

When I think of GYE NYAME
I think about Italian Artist and Philosopher Michelangelo and his painting “The Creation of Adam”

In Michelangelo’s painting God is reaching towards Adam and Adam appears to be reaching out as well. However you get the sense that Adam - Humanity isn’t extending itself fully to reach divinity even though God has extended Himself fully.

GYE NYAME (to me) looks like two hands coming together and Symbolizes God’s Omnipresence, omnipotence, and the overall Supremacy of God.

Some would say GYE NYAME looks like a spiral galaxy similar to the one our solar system is found in.... I like to imagine that it was God’s hands that molded and crafted matter into what we perceive today.
