Can we take a moment to appreciate the loveliness of hand-painted tiles? Their old-world charm translates beautifully into an invitation suite. 🍊
A quick little lesson that you didn’t ask for (because they are just so special that we should all know): tin-glazed tile has been painted the same way for centuries. The otherwise reddish clay gets fired once to harden it, then dipped in a tin glaze that dries to a flat, chalky white- a canvas to paint on. Painters work straight onto that surface in intricate patterns with metal oxides- only a few minerals survive the heat, which is where that particular quality of color comes from. Copper gives the greens and turquoises, iron the oranges, antimony the golds, and cobalt the deep classic blue that we associate with these tiles. So much work goes into each individual piece.
This suite featuring a central floral motif was designed with a Tuscan palette for a destination wedding in Italy. The fizz, citrine, and turquoise hued inks sit against Soft Coral and Pistachio, pale colors that give the suite a soft, organic feel.
These Citrine envelopes were printed with our variable data printing- all ready to stamp and send!
