Jorj Morgan The Art of the Host. 🌿 Devoted to returning the host to the conversation, and the table to the heart of the home. Our first party was a luncheon for 300 guests.

Explore heritage recipes, memoirs, and our latest 'Tide to Table' Master Blueprint Edition at https://www.jorj.com. One of my first cooking experiences was hosting a surprise 45th birthday party for my mom in my teeny tiny apartment when I was just 22 years-old. I invited not only her close friends, but also many of my father’s out-of-town business contacts and they all came! I served Lobster Thermidor that everyone ate on their laps, spilling out my front door into the hallway and up the stairs. That evening sealed the deal for my hubby, George who was in awe of my entertaining naiveté and pure gumption in pulling the party off. From there I went into catering with my two earliest gal pals. We created what looked like a giant tool box and served cold salads, homemade muffins and four types of brownie bars. This success led to corporate picnic suppers, yacht cruises, barbecues, children’s parties and much more. Raising children interrupted my career, but not my love of cooking and entertaining. I regularly entertained hosting both small and large parties and chaired numerous galas, fairs and fundraisers. Once I coerced volunteers to cook all of the carny food for a three day city-wide festival – that was FUN! The explosion of the internet led to my first website and ultimately to my first published cookbook, At Home in The Kitchen. Several books and hundreds of blogs later, I published my first ebook, Sunday Best Dishes last year. It’s primed to be one of the first print-on-demand books (as soon as the in-store technology catches up). Today my passion still includes food and entertaining as well as my strong love of family and community, but my views have changed – dare I say they have been enhanced by the experiences that lead me to my current status – NANA.

Apple c***r, cranberry juice, fresh orange and lemon juice and a cinnamon-brown sugar syrup chill together for at least two hours. Just before the guests arrive, add ice and ginger ale, then float orange and apple slices, cranberries, rosemary sprigs and cinnamon sticks across the top. Bourbon and spiced rum wait on the side for the grown-ups. Witch's Harvest Punch is free to make.

The Haunted Halloween Open House is a Vault menu, open to browse on the Estate Table. It pours a Witch's Harvest Punch, warms a Brussels sprout Caesar, and sets a slow cooker beef and black bean chili beside a turkey chili crowned with roasted butternut squash. Sweet potato corn bread and chocolate almond cupcakes finish the buffet, with two chili pots going and the door left open.

Pour in just one cup of the stock at first.

Soy sauce and honey follow, then the collards simmer covered on low for 20 minutes. With the lid off, the rest of the stock goes in, and about 30 minutes more makes them very soft. This Vault recipe, Sauteed Collard Greens with Fresh Ginger, is a side on the Sweet Magnolias table.

Sweet potato puree does not have to start from scratch. A can from the grocery store works in this Vault recipe, and so does one medium sweet potato, peeled, cut into chunks, boiled soft in 15 to 20 minutes and pulsed to a puree in the food processor, about the cup the batter needs. Either way, Sweet Potato Corn Bread ends under honey and melting butter.
