Finished four of the five comfort stations in BBNP. This project involves the removal of 70 steel single-pane windows and 20 steel doors and frames embedded in concrete, then installation of 70 new aluminum double-pane windows and 20 new steel doors and frames, along with new hardware, trim, and paint. I've been camping close to the jobsites in order to avoid travel time and fuel expenses.
Nobody I asked was able to tell me exactly when these were built. However, I was lucky enough to find a piece of newspaper within one of the walls of the last station I worked on. The tattered part of a single page had no date on it, but there were some ads for an Easter sale at Sears and a paragraph about how the Senate was meeting that week to discuss the formation of an 88 mile long "National Seashore" along the coast of Texas. Well, that stretch of shoreline became a National Park in 1962, so that would make the comfort stations within BBNP 55 years old.
I can't resist also pointing out that Sears had men's slacks for $4.88 and boys sport shirts for $1.88. Women's briefs were 3/$1 and summer fabrics could be had for 79 cents a yard.

Been super busy since my last post. Have another composting outhouse, more kitchen counter tile, and two more shade structures under my belt since then. Currently I'm working on replacing all the doors and windows at five comfort stations located in BBNP.

CASH DISCOUNT?

Tax time again, and I could easily have taken Wendy on a vacation to Hawaii for what I'm sending the IRS this year. The forms are cumbersome and time consuming, and many, if not most, of my competitors are getting payed "under the table". Why should I pay?

Because it's the right thing to do.

My estimates are free and I do quite a few of them. An accurate quote usually always requires a trip out to the location and some time on the computer researching prices, answering client questions, and typing up the specifics of the bid. Cash discounts are a topic that frequently comes up during this process. I don't offer them and never will. All of my earnings are reported, and the cost of my services reflects that. I do great work in a timely fashion, but I probably can't do it for less than the guy that isn't paying his taxes.

Maybe Later Ranch Construction is three years old. According to statistics I should have failed by now. My deepest gratitude to those of you that have supported me. THANK YOU!

The owners of this off-grid cabin were thrilled with the new covered deck I built last month, but not the big, ugly water tank. They wanted something less "in your face". No problem. I did some looking and found this dark brown leg tank that sits lower than the deck rail and blends in much better. They also have large family gatherings at this location and decided they better have another set of steps to better accomodate the crowd. Again, no problem. This deck held 14 people along with tables, benches, and a large barbecue grill.

The Little B***o country store project has been completed on time and within the budget. Built by local talent for the local community. No pictures to post at this time - I encourage everyone to stop by and look for themselves. Some interesting but less obvious inclusions that I would like to point out are the state-of-the-art UV water purification system, the ADA compliant bathroom, R19 foam insulation, and zinc countertops.

Finished this screened porch today. Concrete foundation, cedar siding and metal roof. Just needs a door to keep the flies away, and it's ready for some ice tea sippin'.

Cabin remodel continues. New cedar siding on all four sides, two new screen doors, new chimney and woodstove. Installing the chimney on a 12:12 pitch metal roof on a sunny 106 degree day was alot of fun.
