“Orange Goblin”

The partial lunar eclipse rises over an illuminated cypress tree tree in the dark of night.

This image was just me trying to be creative. I loved the color of the moon during the lunar eclipse, so I figured I’d change my lighting color while on the water to match the hue. The deep orange colors against the blue sky made for nice complementary colors and I thought it was just weird enough to be kinda cool. I hope you like it!

“Once Great”
Lake Martin, Louisiana

The remnant of a stately cypress tree stands in the calm dark waters of the lake.

While the lunar eclipse was in process of moving towards partial totality, I took the opportunity to explore another “tree” in the darkness. Amazingly, this stump has been standing all the years that I’ve explored the lake. It’s no wonder why cypress wood is known for its hardiness.

For this photo, I decided to use a single light to illuminate the subject. My goal for the composition was to include the lily pads in the foreground along with a hint of mid-ground trees for balance. It took some finagling of the tripod to get it into position, but I think it worked out. I hope you like it!
