My great-grand uncle was Captain Mervyn S. Bennion who died from wounds aboard his ship during the attack in Pearl Harbor. I’ve read his story many times but nothing was more sobering than to see his name listed in gold at the Pearl Harbor memorial. He was a kind man, loving husband, and a God fearing man who believed in doing what was right.

On our trip to Hawaii we also visited other military cemeteries and memorials. The following pictures show marble walls that are completely covered in names of people who have been lost in battle and never found. Their final resting place only known by God.

Today, remember those loved ones and those lost ones who fought to protect the rights and freedoms of others.
