After over 6 years in this house and spending 10s of thousands of dollars on improvements, replacements and upgrades, one of my last projects (trust me there are more if my future bank account can accommodate it) is to finally get this kitchen up to s***f. First images are what it looked like when I purchased this home and progression to its current state. Getting duct work, new counters, new sink, new faucet with an added RO system, build around for the fridge and a custom designed (by me) additional cabinet added to a newly extended wall that will house a new built in microwave, eliminating the over the range microwave, and also providing storage for my dog’s food prep station and my tea leaves and spices. Hopefully, this will be completed in 2-3 weeks. 🙏🏼

The life of an artist means paying more for supplies than you’ll ever recoup in sales.

I have now lost 2 very special women from this industry who have left their mark on my heart and soul. Heike Marro I love you and you will be missed terribly until I join both you and SK someday. Then I will take you by the hand and show you the Grand Canyon. ❤️‍🩹💔

We regret to announce that Heike made her final brushstroke on May 12, 2026, after a long battle with illness.

Heike leaves a void behind her, but she also asked us to share this message: "You have the right to be sad, but think of those moments of madness from the mother, the friend, the colleague..."

The world is a little duller now, since she filled it with optimism and color, let us pay tribute to her and spread a little of both ourselves every day.

Her Husband and children

To all of the Moms out there - Happy Mothers Day. New, old, and in between. It is often a thankless job. One that will give you the greatest joys and the most gut wrenching heartbreaks. But, I don’t know any of us who would trade one second of time with our babies for anything else in this World. Even after they are grown.

If you are blessed enough to be able to spend time with your mom today, give her a great big hug and let her know how much you love her. If she’s too far to see… make time to call her.

And for those of us who have lost our moms, say a silent prayer to her - thanking her for all she did for you throughout your life. I’m confident she will hear you.

Can I just say, all friendships are important, but some friends truly go above and beyond during stressful and difficult times. First, I want to thank Ella Bella Vintage Finds & Gray Day Relics owner Aspen Staples-Wendler for her canine expertise while I’ve dealt with Cassie’s post surgical challenges and UTI. Cassie had not been able to go to the bathroom for over a week, but with her extensive knowledge and experience raising Brittany-doodles and Golden doodles, as well as rescuing several yorkies herself, she gave me tips and tricks to make sure Cassie was getting her needed fluids, medications and nutrients. Things that the four different vets we’ve seen over the last week didn’t even share. So thank you Aspen. Then, thank you to my other bestie Jennifer Foerster of The Pink Magnolia Murals & More for checking in daily and letting me know how much she cares. The moral support these two friends have given me has gotten me through some scary moments over this past week. There are others, including Mary Chouinard and Jessie Leigh (who dislikes little yappers) who were also so sweet to check in regularly and often. I love you all very much.

Now to update you all without being too graphic - Cassie had only gone potty 3 times since her surgery a week ago and had no booboos. I took her to our regular vet yesterday in hopes of them helping relieve her, but they proved to be useless, so I was just preparing to make the 300 mile rt drive down to the surgery center after calling them this am to get their help for this poor baby whose colon and bladder were beyond overfilled. I jumped into the shower, since I haven’t really taken any time for myself this past week, and didn’t want to draw flies on the drive south, and apparently, Cassie had heard my convo with the assistant at Neighborhood Pet Hospital and decided she better get busy or face more poking and prodding. Long story short mission accomplished - all on her own on both aspects - and it appears the UTI has cleared up with the mega doses of antibiotics as well. She got the biggest belly rub and treat. And she’s now resting peacefully.

She’s actually starting to use that back leg a little too. She tried scratching her head with it this morning - so it’s coming along, and the 3 sessions daily of PT I am giving her must be helping.

Thank you everyone. I sure appreciate the support, prayers and love you’ve all shown my little peanut. We still have a long road ahead before she is able to walk or bear weight on that leg, (I’m told 6-8 weeks) but, today was a huge win for my little 6.5 lb baby girl.

If you are still a vendor at The Painted Tree, my heart goes out to you.

A vendor agreement obtained by WRAL News sheds new light on some questions surrounding the sudden announcement that Painted Tree Boutiques will shutter its more than 60 stores nationwide, including in North Carolina.

We’re back home. This ER group is fantastic. They got us in quickly and Dr. Romero, along with the entire staff is amazing. Cassie is holding her own right after showing some serious signs of distress… and I can get a few hours of sleep now.

Sitting here at 3:30 am with Cassie at Greenlight Pet ER She is not doing great. 🙏🏼

It was another difficult day for poor Cassie. She had to go back to the Vet hospital and get bloodwork and urinary tests because she finally was able to relieve her bladder in the wee hours this morning but it was about 60% blood. Needless to say, we were both up most of the night.

This poor little girl… she just never gets a break. She was given fluids intravenously today, along with stronger antibiotics, and topical antibiotics as well. She’s really not eating much and hasn’t relieved her bladder again since this early am. I am watching her closely. These little teenies are so fragile and it’s so important to make sure they keep their temperature, fluids and body functions regular. I’m so glad I got her into the ER vet (yes, another 300 mile rt drive) to have them check everything out first thing this morning. It was a very long night, and was an even longer day… sitting on a concrete bench for the better part of it. But there’s nowhere else I would be, than with my girl, seeing her through this ordeal, so she can feel happy and healthy and pain free, in the near future. But man, this is breaking my heart to see her go through this - after knowing what she went through essentially alone, just over a year ago.

Keep praying for my little peanut. She’s not out of the woods yet… oh, and that kitchen remodel? Unless a close family member or benevolent friend hits the lottery, that’s probably not going to happen now. This has consumed all the money earmarked for my dream kitchen. But again, while I’m a little sad about that, I don’t regret using it to help Cassie for even one second. She deserves all the second chances she can get. 🫶🏻🐾
