From our first intro call, we were already finishing each other’s jokes and playlist requests. You know it’s real when the convo shifts from logistics to debating if Brandy or Monica won “The Boy Is Mine.” (It’s Monica—don’t fight me.)
They trusted me to DJ and host a wedding for 300+ of their closest friends and fam. What they actually did was hand me the keys to the 90s R&B kingdom and say, “Go off, sis.” And I did.
TLC, Aaliyah, SWV, Ginuwine, Toni, Mariah, Janet, Usher, Jagged Edge, and a little Destiny’s Child sprinkled in—because obviously.
It felt like the BET Awards met Paris Runway—and then we all lined up outside for burgers like it was the afterparty to end all afterparties.
The energy? Off the charts.
The dance floor? Unhinged.
The love? Loud, proud, and overflowing. 🌈
I’m a proud ally of the LGBTQ+ community, and witnessing this kind of celebration—this kind of freedom and joy—was something I’ll never forget.
We still catch up, crack jokes, and toast over bottles of Jameson, usually while arguing if Color Me Badd was better than Boyz to Men.
