Orlyn and Marit Kringstad founded Nordic Home (now Nordic Home North) in 2001. Their background in bringing high-quality Scandinavian home furnishings, rugs and interiors, custom designed with a uniquely Nordic touch, can be traced back centuries to their family’s deep Norwegian roots. Orlyn's background includes six years living and working in Norway from 1972 to 1978 during Norway’s early “IT” years, serving as Data Center Manager for a large building products firm, and twelve years as Chief Fraternal Officer for the fraternal benefits insurance organization Sons of Norway. With most of his extended family in Norway, and his long association with business in Norway, the transition to export/import between Norway was not unusual. Marit spent numerous childhood summers in Norway visiting her grandparents and large extended family. She attended Augustana College in South Dakota and participated in the HECUA program at the University of Oslo, fall/winter of 78/79. Her earlier professional career has been devoted to children. Marit is a licensed Social Worker and has served in various positions including director of Social Services for 15 years at Plymouth Christian Youth Center in North Minneapolis. Marit’s deep Norwegian roots, along with her many Norwegian experiences and commitment to children made her transition into the Goodweave® project with Nordic Textiles and Furnishing a natural.
